Nutritional problems, especially stunting or stunting, are growth disorders in children that occur in the first 1000 days of life, namely from in the womb until the child is 2 years old. Unfortunately, interventions for pregnant women and children under the age of two years (baduta) are often late, especially if the pregnant woman is already anemic and the child has not gained weight more than 1 time (months). Without appropriate interventions, stunting can cause various negative impacts not only in the short term, but also in the long term, from the individual level to the community within a country, ranging from susceptibility to disease to loss of productivity and low competitiveness. For this reason, preventive measures or interventions that are further upstream are very important.
As the capital city of a country with an improving socio-economic status of the population, DKI Jakarta is still not free from the problem of stunting. Based on the 2019 Study on the Nutritional Status of Toddlers in Indonesia, the prevalence of stunting in Jakarta still reaches 19.9% and the highest number is in the Thousand Islands Regency, especially Panggang Island Village. The Thousand Islands Regent in 2019 emphasized the importance of efforts to focus attention on the high rate of early marriage in the Thousand Islands youth which is one of the risk factors for stunting.
On Tuesday, September 6, 2022, a Community Service activity was held chaired by Nurul Dina Rahmawati, S.Gz., M.Sc., from the Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI). The activity, which carries the theme “Teen Room: Innovation for Health, Nutrition, and Productivity for Youth in the Thousand Islands in 2022” was held at SMAN 69 Jakarta, Pramuka Island, Seribu Islands Administrative District. Asih Setiarini, M.Sc., this educational activity for teenagers is supported by 2 (two) types of educational media at once, namely Android-based Online Games and Healthy Youth Module. An online game called “Nutrition Impact” has won the attention and appreciation of the students. Interesting animations and storylines make students enjoy playing this game without realizing it, in order to meet the targets set in order to level up, information about nutrition and health is fully contained in each level of the game. To complete students’ understanding of gamified nutrition and health, The Healthy Teens Module is here to accompany you with a variety of valid information according to the results of scientific research. This module does not only discuss anemia in adolescents, but also about early marriage, balanced nutrition, and healthy lifestyles for adolescents.
This activity was carried out in a mixed manner, namely offline on September 6, 2022, followed by 2 online meetings via Zoom to strengthen students’ understanding of nutrition and health in adolescents. In the end, this activity is expected to increase not only knowledge, but also attitudes and behavior of teenagers in order to increase achievement and productivity to become the next generation of competitive Indonesia.
