On Thursday, 9 February 2023, the Dean of the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) at the Universitas Indonesia (UI), Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc., attended the 37th Anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UI as one of the panelists. Also present were the other four panelists, namely the Dean of FK UI, Prof. Dr. dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, Sp.PD., KGEH., MMB .; Main Director of Persahabatan Hospital, Prof. Dr. dr. Agus Dwi Susanto, Sp.P(K); Main Director of Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Dr. dr. Lies Dina Liastuti Sp.JP (K), MARS, FIHA; as well as Head of Community Service and Disaster Alumni Association of FK UI, dr. Yogi Prabowo, Sp.OT(K), SpEm.
The 37th Anniversary of FK UI which was held offline in the Hall of FK UI-IMERI brought the topic “Readiness of the National Health System for Global Health Emergencies” with three panel discussion topics, namely the current situation in global health and national health emergencies, the role of educational institutions and hospitals references in efforts to mitigate and prepare for health crises, as well as the condition of the resilience of Indonesian health services in the two decades of Indonesia’s health crisis. In the panel discussion, Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc., talked a lot about the global health situation from an emergency perspective in Indonesia.
“The COVID-19 pandemic as a global health emergency has actually not ended. The trend of cases has indeed decreased, but there are still other possibilities that could occur. The worst scenario is that this virus can mutate and return to violence in the future,” said Prof. Mondastry.
According to him, the global health emergency in Indonesia was affected by the National Health System (SKN) which was not yet strong. To build a more robust health system, SKN must be viewed from the perspective of disaster risk reduction. “Promotive and preventive roles are needed in building solid SKN resilience. For this reason, FPH UI as an educational institution has a big role in carrying out these two efforts by providing reliable human resources (HR) for health,” added Prof. Mondastry.
The presence of the Dean of FPH UI at the panel discussion proves FPH UI’s commitment to continue to make efforts to contribute to the realization of better Indonesian public health. The hope is that FPH UI, FK UI, and other health education institutions can continue to work together to form health human resources who are reliable and able to solve health problems in Indonesia.
