Commemorating National Nutrition Day, FPH UI Holds Online Seminar Series 1

Welcoming 2024 and commemorating National Nutrition Day, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) is holding an Online Seminar FPH UI Series 1 on Friday, January 26, 2024. The seminar is the result of collaboration between FPH UI, Bapennas, SUN Academia, and OP Network Indonesia will be held every Friday, once every two weeks.

“This seminar is a forum for sharing scientific information for academics, scientists and public health practitioners. “Bappenas really welcomes this seminar because the issue is directly related to the national development agenda,” said Drs. Amich Alhumami, M.A., M.Ed., Ph.D., as Deputy for Human Development, Society and Culture of Bappenas in his speech.

FPH UI Online Seminar Series 1 presented two expert speakers in the field of nutrition. Khoirul Anwar, S.Gz., M.Si., Lecturer at Sahid University’s Nutrition Study Program was present as the first speaker on the topic “Social Media and Influencers in Relation to Prevention of Nutritional Problems in Indonesia.” In today’s digital era, social media has become a dominant source of information. The massive use of social media in society can be a great opportunity to provide nutrition education. “Social media can be used as an interesting educational medium and can promote nutrition, food and health. “Influencers can also have a positive influence on their followers to apply the principles of balanced nutrition,” said Khoirul. According to him, Instagram is still the most suitable platform for sharing educational content. Khoirul also emphasized to always check the sources of information used in content on social media.

“Education does take a long time and is quite expensive, but adequate education is the beginning of behavior change that has a lasting impact,” said Wahyu Kurnia, S.K.M., M.K.M., Lecturer in the Nutrition Department, FPH UI. Through his presentation, Wahyu spoke about “Learning Center PDRC FPH UI: Efforts to Expand Access to Essential Information Regarding Stunting and Other Nutritional Problems in Indonesia.” The PDRC FPH UI Learning Center is an online learning platform aimed at health services, health workers and health worker partners. The PDRC FPH UI Learning Center was born from the problem of behavioral determinants of stunting which are still low and the inadequate understanding of health workers. In collaboration with various universities and research clusters, currently the PDRC FPH UI Learning Center has implemented three classes with three different topics, namely a stunting class, an anemia class in pregnant women, and a short guideline for infant and young child feeding (IYCF) class. These three classes received enthusiasm and positive feedback from the participants. As many as 88% of class participants stated that the material presented was very informative and useful.

“Prevention of nutritional problems is very complex, it must be done comprehensively. FPH UI really supports the presence of this online seminar. “Hopefully in 2024, FPH UI can contribute more through research and community service to help solve the nation’s nutritional problems,” said the Dean of FPH UI, Prof. Dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc., in his speech.
