SDG 2 : Zero Hunger

Campus food waste

Campus food waste tracking

The Faculty of Public Health really put an effort to eliminate hunger as well as to achieve food security and good nutrition by providing nutritious food at the faculty’s canteens. In 2021, the whole faculty including the canteens is on lockdown. Thus, there was no food waste because the faculty and the canteen were not operating. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, food waste was collected in containers and will be picked up by the cleaners from the university to be disposed.

Food waste from the canteen is sorted into containers and will be transported every day during working hours to be brought to Tempat Pembuangan Sampah (TPS) by the cleaners from the university. The total of food waste is calculated from the percentage of employees who work from campus during the COVID-19 Pandemic (around 50%) with an estimated food waste generated per person is around 50 grams, multiplied by the number of working days in a year.

Access to food security knowledge

One of the departments in the Faculty of Public Health is the Department of Nutrition. The Department of Nutrition often connects with local farmers and food producers to provide them with access related to food security and sustainable agriculture as well as aquaculture knowledge. In 2021, the Department of Nutrition held an event entitled: Community Empowerment in Management of the Settlement Environment and Community Education in Increasing Consumption of Nutritious Food During the COVID-19 Pandemic Era in South Bogor District.

In 2021, the Department of Nutrition held an Urban Farming course through the Indonesian Micro Credential Activity (KMMI) grant scheme funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The course was held from August until October 2021 and was divided into 16 sessions. The course was managed by the Department of Nutrition in collaboration with PT East West Seed Indonesia (PT Ewindo) which is the first integrated vegetable seed company in Indonesia.
