One of the departments in the Faculty of Public Health, Department of Environmental Health, has a local education program on climate change risks, impacts, mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning. Within the undergraduate program, the lesson is provided through the Air Pollution Course. While for the graduate program, the lesson is provided through the Global Health and Environment Course.
The Environmental Health Student Association (Envihsa) is a student association from the Department of Environmental Health, Faculty of Public Health Universitas Indonesia. They often share information related to climate change risks, the potential impact of climate change, and what can we do to reduce the impacts. In 2021, they shared an Infographic through their social media account that is related to the impact of the climate crisis on health and they socialized it to the local community groups.
As the oldest Public Health institution in Indonesia, lecturers from the Faculty of Public Health often participate in co-operative planning for climate change disasters. In 2021, Prof. Dr. Budi Haryanto, SKM, MKM, M.Sc represents the Faculty of Public Health in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for Drafting Standard and Academic Study of Indoor Air Quality Control for Buildings in Indonesia. Him, alongside nine other experts, participate in the FGD as an anticipation for the climate change impact.
Lecturers from the Faculty of Public Health often provide expert advice to the Indonesian government or to the public through various activities including national webinars. In 2021, Prof. Dr. Budi Haryanto, SKM, MKM, M.Sc served as an informant for a national webinar entitled Raising Climate Ambition to Achieve Climate Justice and Green Economic Growth in Post Pandemic. Him, alongside other experts including Dr. (H.C.) H. Suharso Monoarfa from the Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS), shares their knowledge to the public as part of the Climate Transparency Report 2021 Launch and Discussion.
The Environmental Health Student Association (Envihsa) often collaborates with NGOs on climate adaptation. In 2021, Envihsa collaborates with an Indonesian NGO called the CarbonEthics Foundation Indonesia. The collaboration includes Envihsa supporting 20 mangrove trees planted by the local coastal communities to capture 400kg of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) and conserve the coastal ecosystem. To recognize the effort, Envihsa is presented with a certificate of appreciation.
