Thursday, March 21, 2024, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) and the Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) of the Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a visit from a delegation from Kyushu University in the FPH Meeting Room, Building A, RIK UI. The visit was carried out to discuss making a collaborative research project proposal at the 13th e-ASIA JRP. As for this research project, Indonesia had the opportunity to become Country Lead PI together with Japan and the United States.
The East Asia Science and Innovation Area Joint Research Program (e-ASIA JRP) is a multilateral joint initiative program between several public funding organizations from member countries of the East Asia Summit (EAS). e-ASIA JRP aims to develop a dynamic and collaborative research community in the fields of science and technology and to promote innovation in the East Asia region and provide opportunities for researchers to participate in proposing their research proposals. Alternative energy, food health, health, and agriculture are themes that can be carried out by researchers in implementing this project. The fields and topics raised by Indonesia, Japan and the United States are health research which focuses on preventing antimicrobial resistance for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB) through the development of electronic monitoring systems (e-health).
“TB incidents will probably occur more often, then it will become more difficult to diagnose, so it will become more complicated to study. “Modeling in this situation is necessary,” said the Dean of FPH UI, Prof. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo. “So, the first step we need to take is to know or investigate the determinants of TB cases that occur,” he added.
Assoc. Prof. Fumihiko Yokota from Kyushu University added that the incidence of TB is difficult to detect based on environmental and socio-demographic determinants. So, these two factors must be the first step in implementing this research project as an effort to identify TB incidents.
In addition to identifying the determining factors of TB cases, the collaborative research project carried out will carry out risk assessment modeling to predict a person’s risk of contracting TB, increase the success of TB treatment, and prevent antimicrobial resistance by developing an electronic TB monitoring system.
Furthermore, Koji Todaka, M.D., Ph.D., FJCS, as Director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Research (CCTR) Kyushu University Hospital, presented an explanation entitled; “The Importance of Academic Research Organizations in Recent Medical Product Research and Development”. In his presentation, Kyushu University Hospital has had several achievements, including recognized medical products, comprehensive knowledge that drives the development of new drugs, and various other ongoing development projects. This achievement is a good consideration for making Kyushu University Hospital a partner.
This working visit was attended by the Dean of FPH UI, Prof. Dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc; Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Apt. Arry Yanuar, M.Sc.; FPH UI Cooperation, Alumni and Venture Relations Manager, Indri Hapsari Susilowati, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., Ph.D.; Professor at the UI Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. apt. Rani Sauriasari, M.Med.Sci., Ph.D.; and FPH UI Lecturer, Renti Mahkota, S.K.M., M.Epid. Present from the Kyushu University delegation was the Director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Research (CCTR) Kyushu University Hospital, Koji Todaka, M.D., Ph.D., FJCS; Research Promotion Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Fumihiko Yokota, M.P.H., Ph.D.; and Mr. Toru Sano. (ITM)
