Depok, 12 January 2026 — The Dean of the Faculty of Public Health (FPH), Universitas Indonesia (UI), Prof. Dr. Indri Hapsari Susilowati, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., together with a Professor from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (OHS/K3) of FPH UI, Prof. Fatma Lestari, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., attended the National Occupational Safety and Health (OSH/K3) Month 2026 Launching Ceremony organized by the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia on Monday (12/1). The event was held at PT PLN Nusantara Power UP Muara Tawar, Bekasi Regency, West Java.
This national ceremony marked the commencement of the 2026 National OSH Month, as mandated by Law Number 1 of 1970 on Work Safety and other related regulations. The event was led directly by the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Yassierli, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., and attended by cross-sector stakeholders, including representatives from government, industry, academia, and OSH practitioners.
In his address, the Minister of Manpower emphasized that the commemoration of National OSH Month is not merely ceremonial, but rather a moment of national reflection to reaffirm collective commitment to protecting workers and building a safe, healthy, productive, and dignified world of work. Indonesia currently has more than 146 million workers facing varying levels of occupational risk across sectors, making OSH management a critical foundation for workforce protection as well as national competitiveness.
The Minister also highlighted that national OSH challenges remain significant. Based on 2024 data, more than 319,000 occupational accident cases were reported, including fatal accidents resulting in the loss of workers’ lives. According to him, every workplace accident represents not only a technical failure but also a systemic failure—ranging from unsafe work processes and inadequate equipment to an OSH culture that has yet to be fully embedded.
In response to these challenges, the government has adopted the theme of the 2026 National OSH Month: “Building a Professional, Reliable, and Collaborative National OSH Management Ecosystem.” This theme underscores that OSH management cannot be carried out in a sectoral or partial manner, but must be developed as an integrated national ecosystem based on risk prevention and involving all stakeholders. The government serves as regulator and facilitator, industry as implementer, workers as the main subjects, and academia and professional associations as sources of scientific knowledge and best practices.
In line with this policy direction, the presence of the Dean of FPH UI reflects the strategic role of higher education institutions in strengthening the national OSH ecosystem. FPH UI has consistently contributed through education, research, and community service in policy development, human resource capacity building, and the strengthening of a science-based OSH culture.
“Strong OSH management cannot operate in isolation. It requires an integrated ecosystem grounded in data and scientific evidence, and supported by multi-stakeholder collaboration. FPH UI is ready to serve as an academic hub in strengthening the national OSH ecosystem, through research, human resource development, and policy advocacy,” stated the Dean of FPH UI.
The Dean also conveyed that the Minister of Manpower has approved FPH UI as the host of the peak event of the 2026 National OSH Month. This decision represents the government’s trust in FPH UI as an academic institution with strong capacity and a proven track record in the development and management of OSH at the national level.
FPH UI stands ready to collaborate with the Ministry of Manpower and other stakeholders. The peak commemoration of the 2026 National OSH Month is expected to become a strategic momentum to strengthen collective commitment, improve systems, and foster the development of a professional, reliable, and collaborative national OSH ecosystem, while reaffirming FPH UI’s contribution to the advancement of occupational safety and health in Indonesia.
