Depok, April 2, 2026 – The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI), through its Master’s Program in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), held a preparatory meeting for the establishment of a partnership class with PUSPINEBT-ICMI (Center for Nuclear Innovation and Renewable Energy Development – Indonesian Association of Muslim Intellectuals). The meeting took place on Thursday (2/4) in Room B206A, FPH UI.
The meeting was attended by representatives from PUSPINEBT-ICMI, the Manager of Partnerships and Ventures of FPH UI, the Head and Secretary of the OHS Department, and the Head of the OHS Master’s Program. This meeting marked an initial step in finalizing plans for the establishment of a special class aimed at enhancing the competencies of PUSPINEBT-ICMI members in the field of OHS, particularly in relation to the nuclear and renewable energy sectors.
The collaboration between the OHS Master’s Program of FPH UI and PUSPINEBT-ICMI has previously been developed through various discussions and collaborative activities. Several OHS Master’s alumni, such as Dr. Mufti Wirawan and Dr. Capt. Irwansyah, are actively involved in ICMI, further strengthening the collaborative network between the two institutions. In addition, academic activities such as public lectures on nuclear issues have also been organized, featuring academics and practitioners from both FPH UI and PUSPINEBT-ICMI.
Through a series of ongoing discussions, awareness emerged regarding the importance of strengthening OHS competencies among PUSPINEBT-ICMI members, especially in anticipation of the potential development of Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) in Indonesia. The need for nuclear OHS experts is becoming increasingly relevant, considering that safety is the top priority in nuclear technology management.
During the meeting, it was also emphasized that comprehensive and structured OHS education is currently available at FPH UI. This became one of the main reasons why PUSPINEBT-ICMI sought collaboration with FPH UI. Experiences from visits to nuclear reactor facilities in Indonesia further highlighted this urgency, as some practices observed had not yet fully met optimal safety standards, such as the use of mobile phones in restricted areas.
The OHS Department of FPH UI welcomed PUSPINEBT-ICMI’s initiative to strengthen human resource capacity in support of sustainable and safety-oriented national development. During the meeting, the Head of the OHS Department of FPH UI, drg. Baiduri Widanarko, M.K.K.K., Ph.D., also presented the study program profile, curriculum, learning methods, as well as the student admission and selection mechanisms through the SIMAK UI pathway.
The student selection process for this partnership class is planned to take place during the second wave of SIMAK UI admissions from May to June 2026. Furthermore, the collaboration also opens opportunities for experts from PUSPINEBT-ICMI to contribute as guest lecturers, particularly in teaching nuclear OHS topics.
Through this synergy, FPH UI hopes to contribute to the development of competent OHS professionals who are prepared to face challenges in the future energy sector, while also supporting the establishment of a strong safety culture in Indonesia. (wrk)
