Depok, 9 January 2026 — The Faculty of Public Health (FPH), Universitas Indonesia (UI), officially inaugurated Al Mahabbah Prayer Room as a place of worship and spiritual development for the FPH UI academic community. The inauguration marks the faculty’s commitment to fostering a campus environment that is not only academically excellent but also grounded in values of faith, togetherness, and humanity.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by faculty leaders from the 2025–2029 and 2021–2025 terms, professors, lecturers, administrative staff, and students.
In her remarks, the Dean of FPH UI for the 2025–2029 term, Prof. Dr. Indri Hapsari Susilowati, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., expressed her hope that Al Mahabbah Prayer Room would serve as a comfortable and inclusive place of worship for the entire FPH UI community. “May this prayer room accommodate the needs of students and all members of the FPH UI academic community, and become a place filled with blessings. Let us enliven this prayer room through worship, making it a space for ukhuwah, fellowship, and continuous good deeds (amal jariyah),” she stated.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FPH UI for the 2021–2025 term, Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc., expressed her gratitude that the establishment of the prayer room was realized at the end of her leadership period. She explained that Al Mahabbah Prayer Room was designed to respond to students’ needs, particularly those who often require a place of worship in the evening.
On this occasion, she also elaborated on the meaning behind the name of the prayer room. “Al Mahabbah,” which means compassion or love, reflects the values to be nurtured within the FPH UI environment—love for others, care, and a spirit of togetherness in carrying out roles as members of the academic community and servants of society.
These values were further emphasized through a tausiyah delivered by Dr. KH. Muhammad Shofin Sugito, Lc., M.A.—a UI lecturer in Islamic General Courses and Vice Chair of the Methodology Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Central Board—who spoke on the theme of Mahabbah for all of Allah SWT’s creations. In his message, he conveyed that the essence of worship to Allah SWT lies in glorifying and prioritizing Allah above all else. “Worship to Allah must go hand in hand with compassion for fellow human beings. Both are bound by a single word: mahabbah. Mahabbah is a lifelong struggle that must be upheld until the end of one’s life,” he said.
Through the inauguration of Al Mahabbah Prayer Room, FPH UI hopes that this facility will not only function as a place of worship, but also as a space for nurturing spiritual, ethical, and humanitarian values that strengthen the character of the academic community. The prayer room is expected to become a center for religious activities that fosters a campus atmosphere that is religious, inclusive, and noble in spirit. (wrk)
