Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a meeting with the University of Adelaide, to discuss the potential for research collaboration and student exchange. The meeting was attended by the Dean of FPH UI, Prof. Dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc.; Deputy Dean for Education, Research and Student Affairs, Dr. Ir. Asih Setiarini, M.Sc.; Head of the OHS Undergraduate Study Program, Mila Tejamaya, S.Sc., MOHS., Ph.D.; and Philippa Rasmussen and Harris Gunawan as representatives from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Adelaide.

Implementing the spirit of Free Learning – Independent Campus, FPH UI opens the widest possible access to education for Indonesian and foreign students. The meeting, which was held in the RIK UI Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, discussed the potential for collaboration to develop the scientific realm within the campus environment. “FPH UI is open to increasing collaboration with many foreign universities, including the University of Adelaide. “We are very pleased that the University of Adelaide is willing to visit FPH UI to discuss potential collaboration,” said Prof. Mondastri, at the same time gave a warm welcome to the meeting.

To address increasingly complex global health challenges, it is important to continue to increase capacity in various scientific sectors. This is the focus in the partnership being discussed by FPH UI and the University of Adelaide. “This partnership is not only focused on student exchanges and research collaboration, but also on joint efforts to increase capacity in the scientific field of public health,” said Dr. Ir. Asih Setiarini, M.Sc. “Through the student exchange program, students from both parties have the opportunity to learn from different expertise and cultures, as well as gain broad insight into the health challenges faced by society in various contexts,” he continued.

Furthermore, Dr. Asih said that currently several scientific disciplines have been covered at FPH UI, consisting of 10 study programs at various levels, S1 to S3, with superior results in all study programs.

The University of Adelaide itself is a university located in the city of Adelaide, South Australia, which has a “Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences” which is part of a leading research, teaching and service organization that has a positive and significant impact in the country. “Focusing on primary disease prevention, evidence-based disease management, and justice in health services, the University of Adelaide is always oriented towards current solutions and issues, in line with the vision and mission of FPH UI,” said Philippa Rasmussen. As was also initiated by FPH UI, these efforts were carried out to realize a sustainable increase in the level of public health and produce future health leaders.

Philippa Rasmussen added that this good form of collaboration can also be expanded through research and research programs. “We can also maximize this opportunity by scheduling scientific research collaboration,” he said. This is in line with the sophisticated technology available at the University of Adelaide. “The University of Adelaide facilitates students and other academics to continue to develop knowledge in line with current developments. “There are various powerful technologies that can be used to carry out academic and non-academic research,” said Philippa. He also agreed to hold educational and scientific collaboration with the Universitas Indonesia through a student exchange program.

Meanwhile, the University of Adelaide also sees the importance of international cooperation because it can directly become a bridge for wider connections. Harris Gunawan, University Staff Directory of the University of Adelaide, also hopes that real collaboration between the University of Adelaide and FPH UI can be carried out soon.

FPH UI welcomes this joint commitment to continue developing health and science-based knowledge. It is also hoped that this collaboration can be developed in the form of student exchanges, research, as well as additional courses available so that students can join to expand their knowledge and abilities.
