On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a visit from SMA Labschool Jakarta and SMA Negeri 87 Jakarta. With the aim of finding out information about lectures at FPH UI, approximately 150 visiting participants were received at the FPH UI Doctoral Promotion Room.
“Public health is not the same as medicine. In public health science, we study how to prevent illness, or what is usually called preventive action. “Meanwhile in medical science, we learn how to treat people who are sick, or what is usually called curative action,” explained Dr. Robiana Modjo, S.K.M., M.Kes., Head of the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program in her explanation of the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program.
Not only public health, FPH UI also has 3 other undergraduate programs, namely the Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program, the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program and the Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Undergraduate Study Program.
In the explanation regarding the Bachelor of Nutrition Study Program, the Head of the Department of Nutrition, Dr. Ir. Trini Sudiarti, M.Sc. Through his presentation, Dr. Trini conveyed the latest issues in the field of nutrition, including the rise of various types of diets, not all of which are appropriate or good to follow, especially for teenagers. “In the nutrition study program, students will learn about dietetics. Dietetics is the science of how food and nutrition affect human health. “The field of dietetics has an emphasis on public health and a commitment to educating about the importance of making good dietary choices,” explained Dr. Trini.
Furthermore, the Head of the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Ema Hermawati, S.Sc., M.K.M., explained the curriculum and learning in the Environmental Health Study Program. Previously, FPH UI Education Manager, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M. explained the general profile of FPH UI. Doctor Laila conveyed about entrance selection routes, education costs, scholarships, learning methods, campus facilities, student activities, the Independent Campus Learning program, as well as other general profiles of FPH UI.
Secretary of the K3 Undergraduate Study Program, Abdul Kadir, S.K.M., M.Sc., was present to provide information about the youngest undergraduate program at FPH UI, the K3 Undergraduate Study Program. “In the field of K3, you will later learn about ways to create a healthy and safe work environment, so that you can reduce the probability of work accidents/illnesses due to work negligence,” said Abdul Kadir.
Through this kind of reception activity, FPH UI hopes that more high school students will be exposed to public health science which will later provide them with new knowledge to determine further education choices. (wrk)
