The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) is a reference in the development of the OHS study program in Indonesia. On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the FPH UI OHS Department received a benchmarking visit from the Banten Site Teacher Training and Education College (STKIP Site Banten) to study the opening of the OHS study program as a prerequisite for establishing a university.
A total of three visiting participants from the Banten Site Foundation expressed their plans to open an exact-based study program consisting of Biology, Visual Communication Design (DKV) and OHS study programs at the new university. The new university is planned to combine private universities (PTS) in the surrounding area. As one of the prerequisites for establishing a new university, the fulfillment of linear OHS Masters lecturers, the ins and outs of curriculum, management, and graduate profiles are topics discussed in comparative study visits. The plan to establish the OHS study program was submitted by the Chair of the Banten Site Foundation. This exposure cannot be separated from Banten’s commodities as an industrial area.
The initial formation of the OHS Study Program at FPH UI was carried out after comparing developments, stakeholder visits, and comparative studies abroad which already had OHS study programs. “The weight of OHS will be limited if it is not developed while market demand continues to increase. Thus, FPH initiated the nomenclature S.K.K.K. including M.K.K.K. at Dikti for the first time,” said Dr. Hendra, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., as Secretary of the OHS Department started the discussion.
“Regarding the human resources needed to fulfill lecturers, OHS UI will be ready to help in finding and/or opening vacancies for alumni who are interested in becoming teaching lecturers. “One technique is to support the integration of teaching by our staff who will work there but still study at UI,” explained Dr. Hendra expressed FPH UI’s willingness to assist in the development and sustainability of the OHS study program at STKIP Banten Site.
Doctor Dadan Erwandi, S.Psi., M.Si., Head of the Master of Science and Technology Study Program said that accreditation can occur if there is a uniqueness to the study program so that it is necessary to have courses that differentiate it from other similar study programs. “When developing the curriculum for the first time, OHS UI often invited stakeholders to find out what the community needed, so they held workshops almost every year,” said Dr. Dadan. “By holding workshops or discussion series, the Banten Site may be able to do this as an improvement in the development needs of study programs,” he explained.
The visit from the STKIP Banten Site was attended by Drs. H. Ahmad Sugeng, M.Pd., Chairman of the Banten Site Foundation, Drs. Asah Iskandar, M.Pd., Chair of the STKIP Banten Site and Chair of the PTS Merger Team into a University, and Dr. Miftahul Rachmat, M.Pd. as Deputy Chair II of STKIP Banten Site and Team Secretary.
