The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a study visit from SMA Al Ittihad Pekanbaru on Friday, January 26, 2024, in the FPH UI Doctoral Promotion Room. A total of 38 students and 2 teachers carried out the visit with the aim of providing information about the majors at FPH UI to students at Al Ittihad High School.
Following up on this goal, FPH UI Academic Manager, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M., was present to provide information regarding the general profile of FPH UI. FPH UI itself is the oldest public health education institution in Indonesia which currently has 10 study programs, namely 4 undergraduate programs, 4 master’s programs and 2 doctoral programs. The four undergraduate programs are the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program, the Nutrition Undergraduate Study Program, the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program, and the Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) Undergraduate Study Program.
“Public health is a science that studies preventive or precautionary measures to prevent people from getting sick,” said the Head of the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Robiana Modjo, S.K.M., M.Kes., in her presentation regarding the profile of the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program. This study program is the oldest undergraduate study program at FPH UI which currently has superior accreditation from the national accreditation institution, the Independent Accreditation Institute for Indonesian Health Higher Education and international accreditation from AHPGS.
The FPH UI Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program is the second undergraduate study program at FPH UI. “To overcome nutritional problems, nutrition graduates are needed who are able to manage nutrition and health programs both in the institutional and community sectors, from planning to evaluation, based on a strong theoretical understanding. “That is the role of FPH UI nutrition scholars,” said Dr. Ir. Diah M. Utari, M.Kes., Head of the Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program explained the profile of the study program.
Meanwhile Dr. Al Asyary, S.K.M., M.P.H., Secretary of the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program, said that, “Environmental health is the science and practice of preventing disease and accidents caused by the environment.” Environmental health is the science of identifying and evaluating harmful environmental factors and minimizing exposure to environmental hazards that can affect human health.
Furthermore, the Head of the Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) Undergraduate Study Program, Mila Tedjamaya, S.Si., MOHS., Ph.D., provided information regarding the profile of the OHS Undergraduate Study Program. “The OHS Undergraduate Study Program at FPH UI has 5 scientific pillars, namely occupational health, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and human factors and behavior,” explained Dr. Mila. OHS graduates are expected to be able to manage/manage OHS risks through the application of OHS knowledge in collaboration with stakeholders ethically and professionally.
“All undergraduate study programs at FPH UI have been accredited superior or A. In fact, 2 study programs have been accredited by international accreditation institutions, namely Bachelor of Public Health from AHPGS and Bachelor of Nutrition from AUN. “This shows that the quality of education at FPH UI is very good, so students don’t need to hesitate to register at FPH UI,” said Dr. Laila in a question-and-answer session with visiting participants.
