The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) received study visits from two secondary schools on Wednesday, 18 October 2023 at the FPH UI Doctoral Promotion Room. The two schools are SMA Yasporbi and MA Gaza Al Islami Taufiqi School Bogor. Approximately 70 participants attended FPH UI to receive information about public health science.
During this visit, the FPH UI Academic Manager, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M.; Head of the Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program, Dr. Ir. Diah M. Utari, M.Kes., and Secretary of the Occupational Safety and Health Undergraduate Study Program, Abdul Kadir, S.K.M., M.Sc, as resource persons.
“FPH UI currently has 4 undergraduate study programs taught by expert lecturers in their fields. The four undergraduate study programs are Public Health, Nutrition, Environmental Health, and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH),” said Dr. Laila in her presentation regarding the general profile of FPH UI. Not only providing information about general profiles, Dr. Laila also explained the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program.
Meanwhile Dr. Diah delivered a presentation regarding the Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program. Nutrition science is one of the public health sciences studied at FM UI. “The complexity of nutritional problems in society, such as the problem of good nutritional intake which the Indonesian people should know, is a challenge for us at the FPH UI Nutrition Study Program to be able to provide appropriate knowledge for our students and use it in society,” said Dr. Diah. The Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program itself is an undergraduate study program with the most stringent competition at FPH UI based on selection data for new student admissions in 2022.
Furthermore, Abdul Kadir, S.K.M., M.Sc., explained about the youngest undergraduate study program at FPH UI, the OSH Undergraduate Study Program. “Learning about OSH means learning to create a healthy and safe work environment, so as to reduce the probability of work accidents and illnesses due to negligence which result in demotivation and deficiencies in work productivity,” explained Abdul Kadir.
By presenting the profile of the faculty and its knowledge, especially undergraduate study programs, FPH UI hopes to provide insight for all visiting participants and accompanying teachers to later help them in determining their major when continuing their education at the tertiary level. (wrk)
