The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) is the oldest public health educational institution in Indonesia. However, many prospective students, especially those from high schools, are not yet familiar with public health science. This time, FPH UI introduced its four undergraduate programs to students from Albanna High School Bali and Muhammadiyah 3 High School Jakarta through study visit activities. Taking place on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, this study visit was received in Hall A FPH UI.
Present as a resource person in this activity was the Academic Manager of FPH UI, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M.; Head of the Nutrition Department, FPH UI, Dr. Ir. Trini Sudiarti, M.Kes., and Head of the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Ema Hermawati, S.Si., M.K.M.
“It is an honor for FPH UI to receive study visits from students not only from Jakarta but also from students who are far from Bali. “Hopefully what we convey will be a provision for students to get to know FPH UI better and strengthen themselves to later enter higher education,” said Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M., Academic Manager of FPH UI in her speech. Furthermore, Dr. Laila also explained information about entrance selection, curriculum, learning methods, capacity, scholarships, facilities and the four undergraduate programs briefly. FPH UI has four undergraduate study programs, namely the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program, Nutrition Undergraduate Study Program, Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program and Occupational Safety and Health Undergraduate Study Program.
Head of the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Ema Hermawati, said that Bachelor of Environmental Health graduates must be able to analyze environmental exposure risks, predict health impacts due to environmental exposure, and develop alternative solutions to environmental health problems in accordance with technological advances as well as applicable ethics and laws.
In the explanation session about the Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program, Dr. Trini Sudiarti said that the outcomes of the educational process in the FPH UI Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program are not only hard skills but also soft skills. “The output of the educational process of the Bachelor of Nutrition Study Program is to master the science of nutrition, be it clinical nutrition, community nutrition or food service. Apart from that, for soft skills, students in the Nutrition Study Program are expected to be able to communicate, present well, have a leadership spirit, be able to work in groups, master problem solving, problem analysis, think critically and systematically, be tolerant, adaptive, resilient, and become lifelong learners. ,” said Dr. Trini.
Students from both secondary schools enthusiastically participated in the study visit event. Many questions were asked of the speakers, including regarding scholarships, achievement pathways, profiles of K3 graduates, the difference between environmental health and environmental engineering, as well as regarding new student registration requirements.
