As the oldest Public Health institution in Indonesia, the Faculty of Public Health always tries to collaborate with local, national, or global health institutions to improve health and well-being outcomes. In 2021, the collaborations are as follows:
Local:
1. Academic Cooperation with Al Amanah Al Bantani Foundation for Education and Islamic Boarding Schools regarding Practicum, Research and Community Service in the Field of Public Health.
2. Academic Cooperation with East Lombok District Health Office regarding Practicum, Research and Community Service in the Field of Public Health.
3. Academic Cooperation with Sukabumi City Health Office regarding Practicum, Research and Community Service in the Field of Public Health.
4. Academic Cooperation with Rumah Sakit Paru Dr. M. Goenawan Partowidigdo regarding Field Work Practice, Research and Community Service.
5. Academic Cooperation with Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Pasar Minggu regarding Field Work Practice, Research and Community Service.
Global:
1. Joint Research with Posture 360 Korea.
2. Academic Cooperation with The University of Arizona.
One of the mandatory subjects in the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia is the Field Learning Practice program. Through this program, final year students were put into groups and asked to analyze possible health problems as well as the best solutions for the health problems they found. The Field Learning Practice program usually takes place from mid July until mid August in Cijayanti Village, Cipambuan Village, Karang Tengah Village, Sentul Village, Sumur Batu Village, Citaringgul Village, Kadumanggu Village, Bojong Koneng Village, and Babakan Madang Village of Bogor Regency. In 2020, there were only 11 groups of students who went to analyze health problems and they also found various health problems from COVID-19 prevention behavior to incidence of tuberculosis in the community. While in 2021, there were 18 groups of students who went to analyze health problems related to stunting and nutritional intake issues, waste management, Clean and Healthy Lifestyle, as well as COVID-19 contact tracing.
The Faculty of Public Health has a shared sports facility which is the one in front of Building G. The sports facility can be used by anyone as long as they obeyed the terms and conditions when loaning the facility. It is free of charge and there is no time duration as to how long people can loan the facility.
The Faculty of Public Health provide students with access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including information and education services. Within the Faculty of Public Health, there’s a student association called the PIK-R Rumah Panda. One of the activities organized by PIK-R Rumah Panda is called Peer Education. The purpose of the activity is to gain basic knowledge about reproductive health and gender which later will be useful for the PIK-R Rumah Panda community in conducting advocacy, counseling, and counseling to the community or the intended target.
To support students with their mental health, the Faculty of Public Health has a Student Counseling Board (Badan Konseling Mahasiswa or BKM) consisting of the Student Manager and representatives of teaching staff from each department within the faculty who have received counselor training. Students who need assistance from BKM can contact the Student Unit or reach out to counselors in each department. Assistance provided by BKM includes maintaining students’ mental well-being by giving psychological assistance for students who experience the following problems:
1. Academic: Difficulty in concentrating, lack of motivation to study, problem with thesis completion, threaten with dropping out, etc.
2. Personality: Lack of confidence, stress, excessive anxiety, emotional management, etc.
3. Family issues: Difficulty in communicating with parents, divorced parents, less supportive family, etc.
4. Social relationships: Lack of confidence to speak in public, difficulty in making friends, conflict with friends, feeling isolated or loneliness, etc.
If there is a problem that is deemed to require further assistance from the expert (Psychologist or Psychiatrist), students or the faculty can make a counseling referral to the campus’ Satellite Clinic Counseling Service. All counseling services for students are free of charge except for cases that require psychiatric or further medical treatment.
The Universitas Indonesia has a policy called Kawasan Tanpa Rokok (Non-Smoking Area) approved by the University’s Rector in 2011 through Keputusan Rektor Universitas Indonesia Nomor 1805/SK/R/UI/2011 tentang Kawasan Tanpa Rokok Universitas Indonesia (Decree of the Rector of the Universitas Indonesia Number 1805/SK/R/UI/2011 concerning the Non-Smoking Area of the Universitas Indonesia). Through the decree, the Rector of Universitas Indonesia emphasizes the background, purpose, and target of the decree clearly. The decree also mentioned the provision of smoking areas as well as supervision of the decree’s implementation in all faculty of Universitas Indonesia including the Faculty of Public Health.
