Collaborations and health services

Current collaborations with health institutions

The Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia (FKM UI) has established collaborations with various national and international health institutions, including the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the University of Sydney, and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief Center. One of the outcomes of this collaboration is the publication Food Hygiene and Sanitation at the Jakarta Pondok Gede Hajj Embarkation Dormitory, which aims to improve the health and welfare of Hajj pilgrims through hygiene surveillance, food sanitation, and training for catering officers. This initiative demonstrates a strong commitment to ensuring food safety and the well-being of pilgrims.

In addition, FKM UI collaborates with national institutions such as the Indonesian Ministry of Health to support evidence-based policymaking and public health program sustainability. In 2024, a study titled Procurement of Work Services Study on Maintaining the Sustainability of the National Health Insurance Program: Development of Revenue Collection Policy for Social Health Insurance Funds was published, contributing to the improvement of Indonesia’s National Health Insurance program. FKM UI also plays an active role in global health research to provide evidence that supports national and international decision-makers in reducing the burden of tuberculosis (TB).

Health outreach programmes

BAKPAO (Bakti Sosial Pas OKK) is a community service program organized by the Department of Social and Community Affairs, BEM IM FKM UI 2024, which aims to instill and enhance the values of empathy and concern among new FKM UI 2024 students toward health and environmental issues in their surroundings. Carrying the theme “Mari Lakukan Aksi Demi Kebaikan (MALAIKA)” or “Let’s Take Action for Good,” the word Malaika, derived from Arabic and African languages, means “angel,” symbolizing the act of doing good and spreading kindness to those in need. Through this theme, new students of FKM UI are encouraged to become caring individuals who are ready to help and bring positive change to their environment. The program also aims to facilitate and strengthen students’ active participation in social movements while fostering social and environmental awareness.

Similarly, FKM UI Peduli 20 is a community service initiative under the same department, conducted from May to September 2024, involving Universitas Indonesia students in contributing to improving health management in the target area, Sukamaju Village, Kadudampit District, Sukabumi Regency. This program emphasizes preventive efforts against stunting risk factors through various community based activities, including health interventions, solution-oriented projects, and advocacy programs. Additionally, FKM UI Peduli 20 actively disseminates educational content through social media and conducts public campaigns to raise awareness about stunting issues.

Complementing these initiatives, the Nutrition Family Association of the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia (AKG FKM UI), also runs a program called Gizi Bakti Masyarakat (GBM), which serves as a platform for sharing knowledge and providing education to adolescents, particularly school students. GBM 2024 aims to increase the knowledge, awareness, and concern of junior high school students about daily sugar, salt, and fat (SSF) consumption limits under the theme “Balancing Your Plate: The Key to Better Health.” The program hopes to help students understand the dangers of excessive SSF consumption, especially from ultra-processed foods, in order to prevent related health problems as early as possible. Moreover, GBM provides an opportunity for FKM UI Nutrition students to apply and share their academic knowledge with the community. This year, GBM is conducted at SMP 115 Jakarta through a series of on-site activities, including a seminar on SSF limitation, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) session that allows direct interaction between students and facilitators, as well as pre-test and post-test sessions to evaluate participants’ understanding of the presented material.
