Starting in 2024, FPH UI Receives Study Visits from Students of Asy-Syukriyyah High School Tangerang

Starting 2024, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a study visit from SMA IT Asy-Syukriyyah Tangerang. A total of 80 students and 7 teachers carried out visits aimed at finding out about the knowledge available at FPH UI as well as information regarding the selection for new student admissions. Located in Hall A FPH UI, the visit was received by the Academic Manager, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M.; Head of the Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program, Dr. Ir. Diah M. Utari, M.Kes., and Head of the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Ema Hermawati, S.Si., M.K.M.

FPH UI Academic Manager, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M., provided information about the general profile of FPH UI to visiting participants. Currently, FPH UI has 4 (four) undergraduate study programs, namely the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program, Nutrition Undergraduate Study Program, Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program, and Occupational Safety and Health Undergraduate Study Program. “The four undergraduate study programs owned by FPH UI have been accredited with excellence from national accreditation institutions as well as two study programs with international accreditation, namely the Bachelor of Nutrition Study Program which has been accredited by AUN, and the Bachelor of Public Health Study Program which has been accredited by AHPGS,” said Dr. Laila. Information regarding entry selection via the SNBP, SNBT, SIMAK and PPKB routes was also explained by Dr. Laila. Apart from that, Dr. Laila also explained information related to the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program and the Occupational Safety and Health Undergraduate Study Program.

Meanwhile, Dr. Diah gave an explanation about the Bachelor of Nutrition Study Program to the visiting participants. The FPH UI Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program was established to answer the challenges of solving existing nutritional problems. “Problems related to nutrition can become intergenerational problems that will be passed on to the next generation. “Therefore, FPH UI is trying to prepare prospective public health nutrition experts to help solve this nutritional problem,” said Dr. Diah.

“Processing food so that it has good nutritional value and content is not only a science for nutrition students, in environmental health students also learn how to manage food ingredients to avoid contamination so that they remain good for use,” said Dr. Ema continued information from Dr. Diah. Doctor Ema provided explanations about the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program such as curriculum information, student activities, teaching staff, graduate competencies, and graduate career prospects. “Graduates from the Bachelor of Environmental Health can become sanitarians, HSE practitioners, health microbiologists, entomologists, health sector managers and administrators, as well as environmental health auditors,” added Dr. Emma.

Apart from the various information above, the key information that was asked by the visiting participants was whether public health graduates will be the same as doctors? Public health is a science that studies how to prevent disease. Public health operates at the community level, while doctors’ study how to cure diseases at the individual level. “So, public health experts try to prevent disease or be preventative in society or communities, while doctors are tasked with curing individuals who are already sick or curative, that’s the difference between public health experts and doctors,” concluded Dr. Laila.
