Students of the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) at the Universitas Indonesia (UI) continue to achieve remarkable success on the international competition stage. Amira Puji Hastuti, a 2023 undergraduate student in Nutrition, was recently selected as a delegate for the Paris International Model United Nations (PIMUN) 2024. During the simulation conference, Amira represented the country of Finland and received the Honorable Mention Award in the Council Conference of Parties (COP) 29. She earned this recognition after discussing global climate change mitigation efforts, focusing on the theme “Respect for Human Rights, Mitigation of Climate Change Effects Towards Population Centers, and Implementation of Climate Equality.”
Amira was selected as a delegate for PIMUN 2024 after passing the internal selection process at UI and a probation period. “Initially, I joined the UI MUN Club and participated in the selection for UI’s PIMUN delegation. After being selected last December, I underwent a probation period during which I was required to undergo intensive training for 6 months and participate in several MUN competitions,” said Amira. During the conference simulation, which took place from May 31 to June 4, 2024, Amira and other delegates discussed global issues, including migration due to climate change, policy analysis of COP 28, biodiversity protection from climate change, and cooperation among countries in technology sharing to accelerate the goals of the Paris Agreement 2015.
Throughout her journey to become a PIMUN 2024 delegate, Amira felt supported by the faculty and student affairs at FPH UI. “My trip to Paris was supported by the faculty and student affairs at FPH UI, as evidenced by the class permits and arrangements for make-up End of Semester Exams (UAS) that were made easier so I could still fulfill my academic obligations,” she said.
The Student Affairs Manager of FPH UI welcomed Amira’s achievement with great enthusiasm. Amira’s success aligns with the vision and mission of FPH UI to enhance its international reputation, particularly through active participation at the international level in addressing global health issues. It is hoped that Amira’s achievement will motivate other FPH UI students to continue exploring and excelling at the international level. Congratulations, Amira! (WR)a
