Welcoming New Extension Students in 2024, FPH UI Holds Introduction to Faculty Academic System (PSAF)

The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) held the Academic System Introduction (PSAF) event for new students of the Extension/Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program with the theme “Enjoying to be a Part of Public Health”. The 2024 PSAF for Extension was conducted online via Zoom Meeting over two days, from August 10 to 11, 2024. The Academic System Introduction (PSAF) is an annual activity aimed at introducing the faculty’s academic system to new students to help them better understand the academic environment, so they can later become active members of the FPH UI Student Association (IM).

Extension students are those who have completed a Diploma-III program and continue their studies to a Bachelor’s degree. These students come from diverse professional backgrounds, cultures, environments, and ages, with an academic system for the Extension program that differs from the system used during the Diploma-III program. Through this year’s theme, it is hoped that Extension students will be motivated to develop their academic potential and careers by exploring, understanding, and learning various aspects of public health.

The PSAF event also focuses on exploring the potential of new students as the first step in student leadership development, enabling them to become active members of the FPH UI Student Association. Through various activities that promote leadership and teamwork, it is expected that new students will contribute actively to student organizations and build strong networks among their peers. Given the importance of the Faculty’s Academic System Introduction, the event also included socialization of facilities and infrastructure, academic systems, introduction to IM and Student Organizations (LK) at FPH UI, and supporting seminars for lectures.

The Dean of FPH UI, Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc., proudly welcomed the new Extension students of FPH UI for 2024. “Thank you to the committee and to the new students, congratulations on joining FPH UI. I wish you success and blessings in your studies,” said Prof. Mondastri. In his speech, the Dean of FPH UI also emphasized the importance of implementing an adaptive and innovative curriculum. “The curriculum we develop is not only aimed at meeting academic needs but also preparing students to face global challenges,” said Prof. Mondastri.

The first day of PSAF 2024 included socialization of the curriculum and MBKM, academic presentations, student affairs, the Integrity Zone, faculty profiles, mental health seminars, literature review, and information technology used at FPH UI. The second day’s agenda included the introduction of the FPH Hymn and Anthem, presentations, and sharing sessions with students from the 2021, 2022, and 2023 cohorts, introduction of ambassadors and majors, introduction of SSO, SIAK, EMAS, Microsoft Office, introduction to student organizations, and a discussion with the major ambassadors on mapping and trial filling of IRS before waiving.

The Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of FPH UI, Dr. Ir. Asih Setiarini, M.Sc., provided a detailed explanation of the MBKM implementation at FPH UI. “The MBKM program allows students to explore their interests outside of their major, enriching their learning experiences and enhancing their readiness to enter the workforce,” explained Dr. Asih. FPH UI’s Education Manager, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M., also gave an in-depth discussion on more inclusive and dynamic educational strategies, emphasizing that FPH UI continues to create a curriculum responsive to students’ needs and global challenges.

Meanwhile, FPH UI’s Student Affairs Manager, Dien Anshari, S.Sos., M.Si., Ph.D., highlighted the importance of the Integrity Zone in creating a healthy and safe campus environment. “The Integrity Zone is the foundation for maintaining trust and transparency in the academic environment,” said Dr. Dien. Furthermore, the Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration of FPH UI, Dr. Milla Herdayati, S.K.M., M.Si., stressed FPH UI’s commitment to maintaining institutional integrity and ethical standards in the faculty’s operations.

The diverse training agenda in the PSAF event is expected to provide benefits for the new Extension students of 2024, particularly in fostering a sense of togetherness and adaptability as they begin their education at FPH UI. New Chapter, New Beginnings. (DFD)
