The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) is once again proud of the achievements earned by one of its educational staff members, Dwi Oktaviana, the Laboratory Technician at the FPH UI Nutrition Laboratory, on August 17, 2024. Dwi Oktaviana was awarded Second Place in the 2024 UI Outstanding Educational Staff category. The award was given to encourage the development of creative ideas among educational staff in implementing the Merdeka Belajar, Kampus Merdeka programs and their tangible contribution to achieving the university’s key performance indicators (IKU).
Dwi Oktaviana explained that the competition required laboratory technicians to provide innovative work related to laboratory management, one of which concerned the management system in the laboratory. The innovation presented by Dwi Oktaviana was a quality assurance system for protein testing. “In ISO standards, protein testing requires the validity of results, so I created a quality assurance system that can generate a control chart,” said Dwi Oktaviana.
In terms of procedure, the testing conducted by Dwi Oktaviana followed the SNI (Indonesian National Standards) for food and beverage testing, which involved destruction, distillation, and titration processes. “A test must determine whether the results are valid or not, so a control chart is used to test a reference material (CRM) that is already known. This is tested simultaneously with the sample to be tested, and if the test results show that the control chart falls within the range/layer, the test results are valid,” she explained.
In line with the innovation initiated by Dwi Oktaviana, FPH UI is also preparing to establish an integrated laboratory that combines three laboratories from different departments. Therefore, Dwi Oktaviana’s innovation becomes one of the requirements for obtaining laboratory accreditation.
“The goal is, of course, to simplify any tests that require result validity. To convince a consumer, one of the necessary factors is the assurance of quality provided. Therefore, with the use of a control chart along with the sample, there should no longer be any errors, or we can find the validity of the test results,” concluded Dwi.
Through the selection of Outstanding Educational Staff at UI, it is hoped that the educational staff and the entire academic community of FPH UI will continue to create innovative works that make a tangible contribution to the university and society. Congratulations, Dwi Oktaviana, on your achievement! (ITM)
