The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) welcomed a visit from two prestigious high schools, SMA Islam Al Azhar 19 Jakarta and SMA Labschool Jakarta. The visit took place on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Doctoral Promotion Room of FPH UI, Depok.

The Manager of Education at FPH UI, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M., warmly greeted the participants. In her opening remarks, Dr. Laila provided a brief overview of FPH UI. She described FPH UI as a leading higher education institution in the field of public health, committed to producing graduates who can contribute to national health development. Dr. Laila also shared general information about the study programs, admission pathways, tuition fees, scholarships, curriculum, teaching methods, and facilities available at FPH UI.

“FPH UI is strongly committed to the development of public health knowledge. We not only focus on theoretical learning but also provide practical experiences through research and community service, supported by adequate facilities,” said Dr. Laila.

Meanwhile, the presentation of the study programs at FPH UI was delivered by two speakers: Dr. Ir. Diah M. Utari, M.Kes., Head of the Undergraduate Program in Nutrition, and Dr. Ema Hermawati, S.Si., M.K.M., Head of the Undergraduate Program in Environmental Health.

Dr. Diah gave a detailed explanation about the Nutrition program at FPH UI, including the curriculum, teaching methods, and career opportunities available for graduates of the program. Dr. Diah also highlighted the importance of nutrition science in improving public health and its crucial role in preventing health issues related to dietary patterns.

“Good nutrition is key to preventing various health problems such as malnutrition, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and other health issues often caused by unbalanced diets. The Nutrition Program not only teaches about proper food intake but also how to apply this knowledge to design effective interventions in the community,” explained Dr. Diah.

Furthermore, Dr. Ema Hermawati, S.Si., M.K.M., Head of the Environmental Health Undergraduate Program, elaborated on the Environmental Health program, which is also one of the flagship programs at FPH UI. Dr. Ema outlined how this program prepares students to address health challenges related to the environment, such as clean water management, control of diseases transmitted through the environment, and environmental health policies.

In addition to the presentations, the participants were given the opportunity to engage in an interactive Q&A session with the speakers. This allowed the students from SMA Islam Al Azhar 19 and SMA Labschool Jakarta to get to know FPH UI better, explore the various higher education opportunities in public health, and obtain more information about study programs relevant to their interests and talents.

Through this visit, FPH UI hoped to introduce its various study programs to prospective students and provide them with a clear picture of the career options they can pursue in the future within the field of public health. (wrk)
