The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) at the Universitas Indonesia (UI) welcomed a visit from Citra Kasih Don Bosco Pondok Indah High School on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. This visit aimed to provide insights to students about higher education in the field of public health. Over 100 participants were received at the Doctoral Promotion Room at FPH UI.
“FPH UI is one of the leading faculties in Indonesia, focusing on education, research, and community service in the field of public health. FPH UI offers various study programs that explore different aspects of public health, ranging from health policy, environmental health, to occupational health and safety. There are a total of 10 study programs offered by FPH UI, including 4 undergraduate programs, 2 master’s programs, and 2 doctoral programs,” explained Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M., the Academic Manager of FPH UI. In addition, Dr. Laila also gave a brief introduction to two undergraduate programs: the Bachelor of Public Health program and the Bachelor of Nutrition program.
Meanwhile, one of the programs that was introduced in more detail to the students from Citra Kasih Don Bosco High School was the Bachelor of Environmental Health program. “This program aims to produce graduates who understand the importance of a healthy environment for human life. In this program, students are trained to analyze various health issues related to the environment and design and implement solutions to reduce health risks caused by the environment for humans,” explained Dr. Al Asyary, S.K.M., M.P.H., the Secretary of the Bachelor of Environmental Health program at FPH UI. The students were also introduced to topics such as waste management, air and water pollution, and public policies that support environmental sustainability.
Furthermore, Abdul Kadir, M.Sc., the Head of the Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety (K3) program at FPH UI, introduced the Occupational Health and Safety program. “This program emphasizes the importance of creating a safe and healthy work environment for workers. Students in this program will learn about various aspects related to occupational health and safety, such as hazard identification in the workplace, risk control, and the implementation of safety and health standards. Through this program, students are expected to be able to work in various industrial sectors to reduce workplace accidents and diseases and improve the quality of workers’ lives,” said Abdul Kadir.
The visit from Citra Kasih Don Bosco Pondok Indah High School to FPH UI was an excellent opportunity to further introduce the world of public health education at the university level. Through this event, students gained a broader understanding of the undergraduate programs offered at FPH UI. This visit is hoped to inspire and motivate the students to pursue education in the field of health and to gain a deeper understanding of higher education, which plays a significant role in public health.
