On Friday, February 7, 2025, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (FPH UI) welcomed a visit from undergraduate students of the Hospital Administration Study Program, Faculty of Science, Technology, and Health Sciences (FSTIK) Universitas Bina Mandiri (UBM) Gorontalo. This event aimed to broaden students’ knowledge of the role and application of information technology in hospital management.
The Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of FPH UI, Dr. Ir. Asih Setiarini, M.Sc., warmly welcomed the visit from UBM Gorontalo students. “We are honored and pleased to receive this visit. Hopefully, this visit will serve as a valuable opportunity for all of us to exchange knowledge, experiences, and strengthen academic ties between the two institutions. We hope that from this expert lecture, students can gain insights into the benefits of IT in hospital management, which will be presented by Mrs. Popy Yuniar, Ph.D.,” said Dr. Asih.
The expert lecture, delivered by a lecturer from the Department of Biostatistics and Population Studies, Popy Yuniar, S.K.M., M.M., Ph.D., explained how the advancement of information technology can enhance efficiency and effectiveness in hospital management, including data-driven decision-making and the optimization of healthcare services.
“The utilization of information technology in hospitals plays a crucial role in improving efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in hospital management, particularly in supporting the strategic role of administrative staff. Technology-based hospital management systems enable administrative personnel to manage patient data, finances, human resources, and logistics more quickly and accurately,” explained Popy Yuniar, Ph.D. “With digitalization, administrative processes that previously took a long time, such as patient registration, doctor scheduling, and insurance claim management, can be automated, reducing the risk of human error and increasing patient satisfaction,” she added.
Furthermore, information technology also supports data-driven decision-making by providing analytical reports that help hospital management design more effective and efficient operational strategies. “Therefore, hospital administrative staff need to be skilled in operating digital systems and understanding the importance of information technology as a strategic tool in improving overall healthcare service quality,” stated Popy Yuniar, Ph.D.
The students who attended were very enthusiastic about the session. They actively asked questions and discussed the implementation of information systems in hospitals as well as the challenges that might arise in their application. This discussion provided in-depth insights into the importance of data utilization and technology in supporting the role of Hospital Administration (ARS) professionals as part of a more modern and integrated healthcare facility management.
In addition to attending the expert lecture, this visit also served as an opportunity for students to learn more about FPH UI as a higher education institution committed to the development of public health sciences. Through this activity, FPH UI continues to support efforts to improve human resource quality in the field of hospital administration so that they can face challenges in the digital era. Information technology has become a key factor in more effective, efficient, and evidence-based hospital management to enhance the quality of healthcare services for the community. (wrk)
