Selected as one of the Monitoring and Evaluation Locuses for Vulnerable Group Friendly Facilities and Infrastructure in 2023 by the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (KemenPANRB), the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia continues to improve to improve facilities friendly to vulnerable groups. Departing from this, FPH UI invited the Indonesian Association of Persons with Disabilities (PPDI) Depok City Branch Representative Council (DPC) to provide input on facilities and infrastructure that are friendly to vulnerable groups in the FPH UI environment on Wednesday, 23 August 2023.
11 people from PPDI Depok City were present consisting of individuals with visual impairments, deaf friends, mentally retarded, physically disabled and their companions to directly get services and use existing facilities at FPH UI. “The beauty of this facility for disabilities is that we can not only use it for us with disabilities but can also be used for all such as pregnant women, children and so on,” said Ibu Natalina, Chairperson (PPDI) of the Depok City Branch Representative Council (DPC) when provide introductions at the start of the discussion.
Responding to this, Deputy General Manager of FPH UI, Lilis Komariah, M.A.R.S., said that vulnerable group-friendly facilities at FPH UI were meant to be able to accommodate all the needs of vulnerable groups. Vulnerable groups in question are pregnant/breastfeeding women, the elderly and people with disabilities, children, and mothers with children.
In involving the use of this facility, guests from PPDI Depok City were invited to go around to see and use the friendly facilities for vulnerable groups in FPH UI such as special parking areas, guiding blocks, ramps, vines, wheelchairs-canes-crutches, priority waiting chairs, special counters, special toilets, children’s play area, lactation room, blind aids and hearing aids. In addition, guests were also invited to get direct service at the Faculty Service Unit (ULF), where there were ULF staff who had also received sign language mastery certificates, and the FPH UI Academic Counter.
There are several inputs for FPH UI, including the need to improve special toilets for disabilities, the need for signage for deaf friends, the need for more staff to master sign language, and the need for improvements to ramps. In addition to the input that was delivered directly, the guests from PPDI Depok City also filled out a questionnaire to assess input for FPH UI. (wrk)
