Introduction

Nutrition is one of the major factors determining the quality of human resources that are resilient, independent, and competitive in the global era. The more complex nutritional problems in Indonesia as a result of the epidemiological transition, giving rise to problems of malnutrition and overnutrition that occur simultaneously along with the resulting health impacts, has led to an increasing need for competent nutritionists who are able to solve problems and make sustainable solutions related to nutritional issues in Indonesia. Therefore, to address these challenges, the Department of Public Health Nutrition has developed educational programs at undergraduate (Bachelor’s) and graduate (Master’s) degrees.

The Department of Public Health Nutrition at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia, opens a Bachelor of Public Health Nutrition degree program with S.Gz (Sarjana Gizi/Bachelor of Public Health Nutrition) title. Currently, the Department has developed a Competency-Based Curriculum with the Student-Centered Learning (SCL) method and the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach. In addition to managing the Bachelor of Public Health Nutrition degree program, the Department manages a Master of Public Health Science with a concentration in Public Health Nutrition to create professional and qualified nutritionists.

The Department of Public Health Nutrition was first established in 1992 with dr. Syafri Guricci, M.Sc as the first head of the Department. At that time, the bachelors were under the management of Public Health Studies Program with a major in Nutrition so that an academic title awarded to graduates was SKM (Sarjana Kesehatan Masyarakat/Bachelor of Public Health). However, the Bachelor of Public Health Nutrition degree program has been running since 2008, and the S.Gz title has been awarded to graduates since 2012.
