Profile
The graduates (Doctors of Epidemiology) are those able to develop the science and methods of Epidemiology to address any health issues related to the Epidemiology discipline through an appropriate, evidence-based model with interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches for the developments of research, community engagement, and recommendations by advocating to the relevant policy or decision makers that apply nationally and internationally.
Based on the analysis of needs, policies, benchmarks, professional organizations, and Public Health college organizations, the learning outcomes for the Doctors of Epidemiology are formulated as follows:
The degree program curriculum structure is set referring to competencies under competency levels as recommended by the Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology at level 9 (for certain competencies with a small proportion, at level 8 or 7). With these set competencies, the objectives of doctoral education in Epidemiology will be achieved according to the learning outcomes based on available specializations in the degree program (Community-based and Clinical Epidemiology specializations).
The course structure above is designed for completion in 5-6 terms under normal conditions. The normal study period is eight terms without leave; therefore, if a GPA is greater than 3.71, students can graduate with cum laude honors. Those with a GPA approaching 4 can graduate summa cum laude if they complete the program in 6 semesters or less.
The Doctor of Epidemiology Degree Program students are those with educational background in health sciences (Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health, Nursing, and other relevant disciplines), and completed their respective Master’s degree in health.
The acceptance rate highly depends on the number of applicants through admission pathway for the Doctor of Epidemiology Degree Program: the UI admission selection test comprising Academic Potential Test and English proficiency with a passing grade determined by the university and by the faculty and degree program managers.
If the applicants reach the passing grade, they will be admitted to the Doctoral Program in Epidemiology at the FPH UI. The program had a competitive acceptance rate of 1.3-2% over the past five years, with a 100% graduation rate.
During the study period, the students follow the set curriculum and any academic activities, including two independent learnings expected to accomplish the knowledge in constructing their doctoral dissertation. They are also expected to attend international scholarly conferences held in global cities for at least once and publish scientific articles in indexed journals, thereby having adequate international-level experiences.
Students will follow the university and faculty-level Student Orientation Week at campus other than academic activities. They also can use all sports facilities at campus (golf, tennis, football, badminton, and other sports), as well as attend traditional and modern arts activities available at the faculty and university areas.
Most of the degree program students are already employed at international agencies such as WHO and international NGOs, the Ministry of Health, Health Offices, and national NGOs. For unemployed ones, they usually get a job in various institutions as mentioned above in 1-2 years after graduation.
