Introduction

Doctor of Public Health Degree Program is the first doctoral program offered by a university in Indonesia. The degree program was initially an educational collaboration between Johns Hopkins University and Universitas Indonesia in 1983, with a sandwich program model, in which students received academic guidance from supervisors at Universitas Indonesia and intensive guidance at Johns Hopkins University in certain stages for several months. The number of teaching staff at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia (FPH UI) with doctoral degrees was previously limited, most of whom pursued their doctoral studies abroad.

After the number of doctors was sufficient, the FPH UI Doctoral Program in Public Health was proposed and then officially established on September 25, 1993, based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, the Department of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 377/DIKTI/Kep/1993. At that time, the inauguration of the program was executed by Bambang Soehendro. After the establishment, the program’s vision, mission, objectives and strategies continued to be developed in line with the development of the FPH UI’s vision and mission as the faculty providing the education and UI as the party responsible for the program within its environment.
