The Doctor of Public Health degree program at Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia (UI), is the first doctoral study program in public health provided by a university in Indonesia. The study program was initially an educational collaboration between John Hopkins University and UI in 1983, with a Sandwich Program pattern, where in addition to receiving guidance from supervisors at UI, in certain stages, students were also intensively guided at John Hopkins University for several months. At this time, the number of the faculty’s teaching staff with doctoral degrees is considered limited since most of them are still pursuing their doctoral degrees abroad.
With the sufficient number of doctors, the Doctor of Public Health degree program at the UI Faculty of Public Health was proposed and then officially established on September 25, 1993, based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture No. 377/DIKTI/Kep/1993. At that time, the inauguration of the study program was executed by Bambang Soehendro. Since the commencement, the vision, mission, objectives, and strategies of the study program continued to be developed in line with the development of the faculty’s vision and mission as a faculty providing education and UI as the party responsible for study programs in the campus environment.
