Introduction

The Master of Public Health degree program is the first and oldest in Indonesia for a study program in Public Health Sciences. In the early period of establishment of the Faculty of Public Health Universitas Indonesia (1965-1989), the student admission process for this study program was specific to bachelor/medical doctor and paramedics (health academy graduates). However, since 1990 until now, referring to development of public health sciences in the world (research without boundering), this study program adheres to a multidisciplinary resource concept, thus opening up opportunities as widely as possible for all levels of society to be prospective students of the study program.

The principal requirements for prospective students of this study program are attaining a Bachelor’s degree from a study program accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi/BAN-PT) or a Diploma IV in Health, and doing register online, and passing the entrance exam.

According to the Regulation of Rector of Universitas Indonesia No. 2 of 2024, Master’s degree program can be completed in a period of 4-8 semesters (academic leave is counted as a semester load) with a minimum of 54 credits that must be fulfilled and passed, which include publishing 1 journal article and compiling a final assignment.

Qualities

In Indonesia, the UI Faculty of Public Health is a benchmark for public health education at every education level. The faculty was established in 1965, the earliest public health higher education institution in Indonesia, and currently has the largest number of study programs, highly-qualified staff, and the largest number of students ( > 3,000 students).

The Master of Public Health degree program has several advantages: a fairly large enrollment for new students each year (275 students), 13 specializations of science which are unavailable in other study programs, a curriculum developed following developments in Public Health Science at the global level, and the implementation of lectures that have implemented a face-to-face system and distance learning based on e-learning. Starting in 2016, the study program has opened an International Health major, a joint-degree program between the UI Faculty of Public Health and Curtin University, Australia.

The campus location is accessible via public transport, such as by commuter line at the Universitas Indonesia and Pondok Cina Train Stations, or by a private vehicle. Also, the campus is connected to the UI Hospital (RSUI) Building that is a location for field practicum and community engagement activities for teaching staff.
