BPJS Goes to Campus: Collaboration Between FPH UI and BPJS Kesehatan Depok to Enhance Health Insurance Literacy Among Students

Depok, September 19, 2025 – The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI), in collaboration with BPJS Kesehatan Depok Branch Office, organized the BPJS Goes to Campus program at the G Building Auditorium, FPH UI. This initiative served as a platform for students to deepen their understanding of Indonesia’s national health insurance system and the strategic role of social health insurance in advancing public health development.

The event was attended by dozens of FPH UI students, particularly those from the concentrations of Health Administration and Policy, Health Insurance Management, and new undergraduate students of the 2025 cohort. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident through their active engagement during the presentation and discussion on the implementation of the National Health Insurance (JKN) program.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Eng. Stevan Deby Anbiya Muhamad Sunarno, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., Secretary of the Undergraduate Public Health Program and the event moderator, expressed appreciation for the collaboration. “We are grateful for the partnership with BPJS Kesehatan. Hopefully, this collaboration will continue, allowing students to gain a comprehensive understanding of health insurance from both theoretical and practical perspectives,” he stated.

The main session was delivered by Widianti Utami, Head of BPJS Kesehatan Depok Branch Office, with a presentation titled “Easy, Fast, Equal: The Realization of Trusted Social Health Insurance.” She explained that BPJS Kesehatan is a public legal entity under the President of the Republic of Indonesia, mandated by Law No. 24 of 2011, Article 10, to administer the JKN program.

Widianti emphasized that JKN embodies the spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation). “The ongoing transformation of JKN responds to public needs for accessible, efficient, and equitable healthcare services, while also protecting citizens from financial hardship due to medical costs,” she explained.

Currently, BPJS Kesehatan has achieved Universal Health Coverage (UHC) with a membership coverage of 98%—a milestone recognized both nationally and internationally as one of the best practices in social health insurance administration.

Widianti concluded by reaffirming the state’s crucial role in safeguarding public health. “Social health insurance is a tangible form of the state’s presence for its people. This system enables millions to access fair, quality, and medically appropriate healthcare services,” she concluded.

Through this event, FPH UI continues to strengthen its commitment to providing students with real-world learning experiences while equipping them with essential health policy literacy for their future professional roles. (ITM)
