Depok, 1 November 2025 – As part of its commitment to creating a safe, responsive, and empowered campus environment in dealing with emergency situations, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) organized a First Aid Training for 32 students specializing in Reproductive Health and 23 educational staff (Tendik) of FPH UI. The training was held on Saturday (November 1) at two locations — the Doctoral Promotion Room and the Main Hall of Building G, FPH UI.
Facilitated by seven instructors from the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) East Jakarta, the training was designed to enhance participants’ skills in providing effective and timely first aid before professional medical assistance arrives. The program included three main sessions: theoretical presentation, hands-on practice, and participant competency evaluation.
The Coordinator of the Non-Academic Quality Assurance Subunit (UPMNA) of FPH UI, Marwan M. Noer, emphasized that this training represents a strategic step toward strengthening the capacity of both students and staff in handling health emergencies.
“The ability to administer first aid is not only important for health professionals but also for every member of the academic community. Through this training, we aim to instill awareness that everyone can be a first responder who plays a crucial role in saving lives,” said Marwan M. Noer.
The facilitators from PMI East Jakarta explained that first aid refers to the initial assistance provided to individuals who are injured or suddenly ill before more complete medical help becomes available. Trained first aid responders play a key role in preventing a patient’s condition from worsening by delivering timely, accurate, and quality care.
During the theory session, participants learned about the objectives and steps of first aid, including fundamental safety principles for both rescuers and victims. This was followed by practical sessions covering a range of emergency response skills, including:
-
Basic Life Support (BLS), such as handling choking incidents using the Heimlich maneuver and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
-
Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to help restore heart rhythm during cardiac arrest.
-
Techniques to control bleeding, both external and internal.
-
First aid for various types of wounds, including burns, punctures, and lacerations.
-
Management of trauma and injuries, including fracture immobilization and safe victim evacuation.
Participants also took part in simulation exercises, designed to sharpen their response skills in real-life emergency scenarios such as minor accidents within the workplace or campus environment.
This training reflects FPH UI’s core values of “Noble Spirit and Excellent Performance”, reinforcing the faculty’s dedication to building academic and non-academic competence through applied education and practical training. The program is expected to empower participants to become safety ambassadors in their respective environments.
The session concluded with an evaluation phase to assess participants’ understanding and skills. Those who met the required competency standards received an official First Aid Training Certificate from PMI East Jakarta, recognizing their capability to provide immediate assistance in emergency situations.
