On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, eight international students from the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) at the Universitas Indonesia (UI), recipients of the UI GREAT scholarship from various master’s degree programs, participated in the 2024 Degree Awarding Ceremony for Universitas Indonesia International Students at the Makara Art Center UI. With the theme “Unveiling Your Great Dreams,” this event was held to recognize 61 international students from various faculties. The UI GREAT scholarship is awarded specifically to international students who enroll in master’s degree programs at UI.
The eight students from the master’s programs at FPH UI who participated in the event were Dinis Das Neves Soares De Sousa (Timor Leste, Master of Hospital Administration), Brightwell Sibanda (Zimbabwe, Master of Public Health), Same Betera (Zimbabwe, Master of Public Health), Joyce Mangoma (Zimbabwe, Master of Public Health), Ismaili Rashidi Fyongo (Tanzania, Master of Occupational Health & Safety), Nyaradza Notmah Nemaware (Zimbabwe, Master of Occupational Health & Safety), Regis Mavhiya (Zimbabwe, Master of Occupational Health & Safety), and Melisa Nyamukondiwa (Zimbabwe, Master of Epidemiology).
FPH UI is the second-largest faculty after the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) in terms of the number of international graduates this year. FEB UI graduated 13 international students, while FPH UI, together with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) and the Faculty of Engineering (FT), graduated 8 international students.
“This awarding ceremony is the first of its kind for international students at UI. This event is an academic celebration for students who have successfully completed their studies at UI,” said the Head of the Office of International Affairs at UI, drg. Baiduri Widanarko, M.K.K.K., Ph.D.
The international students who participated in this awarding ceremony came from various countries including Mexico, Palestine, Gambia, Nigeria, South Sudan, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Madagascar, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Iran, Yemen, Timor Leste, Cambodia, the Philippines, China, Fiji, and South Korea.
In her speech, the Secretary of the University of Indonesia, dr. Agustin Kusumayati, M.Sc., Ph.D., conveyed her message and hopes for the international students. “We are proud of your achievements, and soon you will enter a new chapter of your lives. We hope you will always remember the values and skills you have learned during your studies at UI, not only for your career development but also for your personal growth. We wish that your journey will be filled with opportunities, success, and prideful achievements. Keep up the good work, continue to carry the good name of UI, and contribute positively wherever you go,” said Dr. Agustin. (wrk)
