Depok, September 12, 2025 – The Master of Epidemiology Program, Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) concentration, at the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a warm and collaborative Farewell and Welcome Ceremony for its students at FPH UI. Carrying the theme “Together in Knowledge Advancing Public Health” and the slogan “One Family, Endless Dedication,” the event marked an important moment in the academic and professional journey of FETP students.
The event was attended by the Dean of FPH UI, Prof. Dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc.; the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Dr. Ir. Asih Setiarini, M.Sc.; Secretary of the Department of Epidemiology, Trisari Anggondowati, S.K.M., M.Epid., Ph.D.; Head of the Master of Epidemiology Study Program, Dr. rer. Medic. Putri Bungsu, S.K.M., M.Epid.; professors and lecturers from the Department of Epidemiology; and all FETP students from the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 cohorts. Also in attendance were distinguished guests: the Director of Surveillance and Health Quarantine at the Indonesian Ministry of Health and Director of FETP Indonesia, Dr. Sumarjaya, S.K.M., M.M., M.F.P., CFA.; and the Head of the Early Warning and Disease Surveillance Team and FETP Indonesia Program Manager, Dr. Endah Kusumawardana, M.Epid., who shared strategic insights on the vital role of epidemiologists in addressing global public health challenges.
In her remarks, the Secretary of the Department of Epidemiology, Trisari Anggondowati, S.K.M., M.Epid., Ph.D., expressed appreciation to the organizing committee and to the 2023 cohort of FETP students who are about to complete their studies. “Today we bid farewell to seven FETP students from the 2023 cohort and welcome four new students from the 2025 cohort. The achievements accomplished are a source of pride for the Department of Epidemiology and FPH UI. The valuable lessons learned at FPH UI should now be applied sincerely in the field. Let us continue to collaborate, not only to advance epidemiology but also to strengthen public health,” she said.
Dean of FPH UI, Prof. Mondastri, emphasized that FETP graduates are the “public health detectives” trained to be on the frontlines in responding to infectious disease threats and global pandemics. She noted, “You have become skilled field practitioners capable of collecting data, analyzing determinants of health problems, and providing rational and rapid strategic recommendations. The contributions of FETP students and alumni have been proven in managing various disease outbreaks in Indonesia, including during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Prof. Mondastri also shared a message for the new 2025 cohort to prepare for a distinct learning experience. “You will learn extensively in the field and face complex public health realities. Yet in every challenge, there will always be opportunities to grow and make a difference,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of Surveillance and Health Quarantine at the Ministry of Health and Director of FETP Indonesia, Dr. Sumarjaya, S.K.M., M.M., M.F.P., CFA., highlighted the increasingly complex dynamics of disease transmission. He stressed the importance of building strong teams of FETP graduates who are ready to work in the field, respond swiftly in surveillance, early detection, and public health response.
The Farewell and Welcome Ceremony symbolized the continuity of dedication between generations of FETP UI students. Through a spirit of solidarity and limitless commitment, FETP UI continues to prepare skilled, ethical, and dedicated epidemiologists ready to serve both the nation and the global community. (wrk)
