The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) at the Universitas Indonesia (UI), as the oldest public health faculty in Indonesia, has been and will continue to make continuous improvements in the tridharma of higher education, particularly in the quality of education towards excellence at both national and global levels. Moving forward, the challenges for the academic community and alumni of FPH UI to enhance their roles and contributions to health development at the local, national, and global levels are not easy. In line with the progress of the 4.0 industrial revolution and the 5.0 societal revolution, characterized by the close integration of human expertise and creativity with machine intelligence, public health experts who will play a key role in health transformation—particularly in the promotive and preventive aspects—must prepare themselves to build a public health paradigm based on evidence and precision (evidence-based and precision public health).
“Through the international cooperation programs in education and research that we have been increasingly developing, such as student mobility and exchange programs (IISMA UI, UI CREATES, Public Health Study Tour, etc.) and foreign student scholarship programs (UI GREAT) as well as international conferences, FPH UI students and graduates have valuable opportunities to enhance their competencies and academic quality to international standards,” said the Dean of FPH UI, Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc., in his speech during the Pre-Graduation Ceremony of FPH UI held at the UI Convention Hall on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
The Pre-Graduation Ceremony of FPH UI for the Odd Semester of 2023/2024 was attended by 242 undergraduate candidates and 313 graduate candidates. Among the undergraduate candidates, 174 students, or 74%, graduated with honors (cum laude), with the highest GPA achieved by Masako Christina from the Bachelor of Nutrition program, who earned a GPA of 3.92. Meanwhile, among the graduate candidates, 129 graduates received cum laude honors, with the highest GPA achieved by Fara Fauzia from the Doctoral Program in Epidemiology, with a GPA of 4.00.
This Pre-Graduation event not only became an impressive moment for the graduates who had successfully completed their studies at FPH UI with remarkable achievements but also marked the last performance of the graduates in front of their colleagues and professors. Several performances were presented by the graduates, including a song from the undergraduate candidates, a flash mob dance from the master’s candidates, and a song and poem performance from the doctoral candidates.
The Vice-Chairman of the FPH UI Alumni Association (ILUNI FPH UI), Dr. Hariadi Wibowo, S.H., M.A.R.S., who attended the Pre-Graduation Ceremony, also expressed his appreciation for the graduates who would soon become members of ILUNI FPH UI. “As future challenges increase and new regulations are faced, health practitioners must continuously explore all forms of intelligence—not only academic intelligence but also other forms of intelligence. This is necessary to sharpen various skills needed to face future challenges. On behalf of ILUNI FPH UI, I congratulate the graduates, and I hope your contributions will bring innovation to public health that will make FPH UI proud. Let us work hand in hand and strengthen each other as alumni of the same alma mater, as we face the challenges towards a prosperous Indonesia,” said Dr. Hariadi Wibowo in his speech.
Various hopes were expressed for the FPH UI graduates who will soon contribute to society. The Dean of FPH UI also delivered some messages in his speech. “We sincerely hope that you will become important figures in health development at both the national and global levels. Realize that as graduates of a prestigious university like UI, you will become role models and exemplars for your profession and the wider community, shaping the future image and reputation of FPH UI. Our message to you is that wherever you are, continue to refine yourself by deepening and expanding your knowledge of public health and other useful fields, while never forgetting to build noble character, be devoted to God Almighty, and always maintain integrity, the good name, and the honor of your alma mater and the nation of Indonesia. On behalf of FPH UI, with great pride, we congratulate you on your graduation,” concluded the Dean of FPH UI. (wrk)
