FKM UI Students Win Best Presenter Award at NUTRICON 2024 in Seoul

Two students from the Master’s Program in Public Health at the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI), Ni Luh Arum and Lady Farah Fatmawati, won the Best Presenter award at the prestigious international conference, The 6th International Conference on Food, Nutrition, Health, and Lifestyle (NUTRICON) 2024, held on November 8–9, 2024, in Seoul, South Korea. The conference brought together experts from various countries to discuss interdisciplinary solutions to issues of food, nutrition, health, and sustainable lifestyles.

Ni Luh Arum presented her research titled “Foodprint: The Environmental Impact of Dietary Patterns in Indonesia through a Planetary Health Lens” in the session “Food Production Quality, Safety, and Sustainability.” Her research addressed the issue of “foodprint,” the ecological impact of the shift in dietary patterns in Indonesia towards more animal-based products, resulting in sustainability challenges. Arum emphasized the importance of a “planetary health” approach as a sustainable solution for preserving both human health and the environment.

Meanwhile, in the session “Nutrition and Lifestyle Interventions in Chronic Disease Management,” Lady Farah Fatmawati presented her research titled “Sugar-Sweetened Beverages and The Risk of Chronic Kidney Disease.” Her study examined the consumption of sugary drinks as a risk factor for the development of chronic kidney disease. With the rising consumption of sweetened beverages in Indonesia, Farah highlighted the importance of public education, health policies that limit sugar consumption, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles as effective prevention strategies.

Each presentation was rigorously evaluated by the Scientific Reviewing Committee of NUTRICON 2024. The conference also underwent a double-blind peer review process to ensure that all research met high scientific standards. The evaluation involved the substance of the research, the clarity of the presentation, and the relevance and innovation in line with the conference’s overarching theme, “Future-Proofing Society: Interdisciplinary Solutions to Bridge Ecosystems and Health.”

NUTRICON 2024, attended by experts in health, nutrition, and lifestyle from various countries, provided a platform for participants to share their latest research, engage in discussions, and build professional networks. Arum and Farah’s achievements not only brought pride to FPH UI but also strengthened Indonesia’s position in the global discussion on health and sustainability issues.

“This award is a recognition of our hard work and dedication in addressing the increasingly complex public health issues. We hope that our research can make a real contribution to the development of sustainable health policies and programs,” said Ni Luh Arum.

In line with Arum, the Dean of FPH UI, Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, expressed, “We are very proud of the outstanding achievement of our students, Ni Luh Arum and Lady Farah Fatmawati, who won the Best Presenter award at the prestigious 6th International Conference on Food, Nutrition, Health, and Lifestyle (NUTRICON) 2024. This achievement not only brings pride to FPH UI but also underscores our commitment to supporting students in contributing actively on the international stage. FPH UI continues to encourage students to develop critical and innovative thinking in public health, so they can make significant contributions to the development of health science that focuses on community welfare and environmental sustainability. We hope this achievement serves as an inspiration for other students to continue creating and making a positive global impact.”

The accomplishments of Ni Luh Arum and Lady Farah Fatmawati at NUTRICON 2024 not only reflect high-quality research but also emphasize the importance of collaboration between public health, environmental sustainability, and public policy. Their success has brought the name of the Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia, to the international stage, serving as a tangible example of how relevant research can positively impact the global community. With their continued passion, it is hoped that this achievement will inspire more students and young researchers to keep working, tackle public health challenges, and contribute to achieving sustainable global well-being.
