FPH UI Encourages Students to Gain Global Experience through International Mobility Programs

Depok, October 17, 2025 – The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) became one of the host faculties for the International Mobility Info Session Roadshow organized by the Directorate of Education Internationalization (DIP) UI. This event aimed to provide students with information and a better understanding of various international mobility opportunities, including student exchange, internships, research programs, and overseas study scholarships. Held in person at the Auditorium of Building G, 4th Floor, FPH UI, the session was open to undergraduate students (minimum of the 3rd semester), as well as master’s and doctoral students of FPH UI.

The event began with opening remarks from Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M., Education Manager of FPH UI, who emphasized the importance of broadening students’ perspectives and academic networks through international learning experiences. She highlighted that participation in international mobility programs not only enhances academic knowledge but also strengthens personal development, cross-cultural communication, and professional competencies essential for success in today’s increasingly competitive global landscape.

The main speaker of the session was Alfrida Esther Madame Hutapea, Assistant Director of International Class Operation and Mobility, Directorate of Education Internationalization UI. In her presentation, Alfrida introduced various international mobility schemes such as student exchange, internship, short courses, and research attachment programs. One of the main highlights was the student exchange program, which allows students to study at UI’s partner universities abroad for one to two semesters without paying tuition fees at the host university, thanks to existing Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) or student exchange agreements between institutions.

Alfrida further explained the difference between exchange and fee-paying schemes, noting that in the latter, students are responsible for paying tuition fees at the host institution.

“Students need to understand the structure of each program from the start to choose the pathway that best suits their financial capacity and academic plan,” she explained.

She also introduced a range of international opportunities available through consortiums such as the ASEAN University Network (AUN), ASEAN International Mobility, and Erasmus+ in Europe. These programs open pathways for student exchanges across more than 300 UI partner universities worldwide, including in Australia, Japan, South Korea, and several European countries. In addition to semester-long programs, students can also participate in short-term programs lasting two weeks to two months, combining academic activities with cultural exchange, as well as internships or research placements at international partner institutions.

“Short-term programs are ideal for students seeking global exposure within a limited timeframe,” she added.

For students facing financial barriers, DIP UI offers several scholarship options to support international mobility, including the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), JASO Scholarship (Japan), and UI GLOBES (Global Outbound Mobility Scholarship for Students) — UI’s internal funding scheme. These scholarships provide financial support covering living expenses, visas, and accommodation for UI students accepted into overseas mobility programs.

“UI GLOBES is a tangible manifestation of UI’s commitment to ensuring that international learning opportunities are accessible to all students, not just those with financial means,” Alfrida emphasized.

Students were also encouraged to utilize the official website international.ui.ac.id to track program announcements, application schedules, and eligibility requirements. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A discussion, where students inquired about credit transfer processes, course recognition, and strategies for selecting partner universities. The strong enthusiasm of the participants was evident from the active exchange and numerous questions related to registration procedures and scholarship opportunities.

Through this activity, FPH UI encourages its students to expand their global academic networks, strengthen international collaboration, and develop globally minded graduates who are ready to compete on the international stage.
