The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) at the Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a benchmarking visit from the Faculty of Law at the University of Lampung on November 18, 2024. The visit aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the development of the Integrity Zone (IZ) for a Corruption-Free Area (WBK) and Clean and Serving Bureaucracy Area (WBBM) at FPH UI, particularly in efforts to create a clean, accountable, and well-serving environment. The visit was held to share experiences, insights, and information on the implementation of the IZ, which has been applied at FPH UI.
Dr. Milla Herdayati, S.K.M., M.Si., the Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration of FPH UI, opened the session by highlighting the faculty’s commitment to building a strong culture of integrity. The Integrity Zone is an initiative by government agencies and educational institutions to prevent corruption and improve public service quality. FPH UI, which has consistently developed a transparent and effective administrative system, serves as a reference for other educational institutions, including the Faculty of Law at the University of Lampung, which is in the process of establishing its own IZ.
During the session, Prof. Dr. dr. Sabarinah, M.Sc., a key figure in the development of the IZ at FPH UI, shared insights into the steps taken in building the IZ, starting from formulating the vision and mission, strengthening the administrative system for greater transparency, to conducting regular monitoring and evaluation. Prof. Sabarinah also explained the collaboration among various parties to achieve the goals of the IZ. Furthermore, the FPH UI IZ team shared experiences about the challenges faced during the IZ development process and how they overcame them, as well as the benefits that have been felt by the faculty and the entire academic community.
According to Prof. Sabarinah, the main challenge in internalizing integrity values within FPH UI is how to create awareness and deep commitment to integrity at all levels of the organization. “Building an integrity zone requires synergy between firm policies and consistent implementation. One of the biggest challenges is changing ingrained mindsets and work cultures, and instilling the understanding that integrity is not only about compliance with regulations but also serves as the foundation for every decision and action. This process requires patience, an inclusive approach, and active involvement from the entire FPH UI community, from leadership to staff and students, so that integrity values can be deeply rooted and sustained,” explained Prof. Sabarinah.
The visit is expected to benefit the Faculty of Law at the University of Lampung in preparing and strengthening the development of the Integrity Zone at their faculty. Through the reinforcement of a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability, it is hoped that a better academic environment will be created, ultimately improving public service quality for the community, students, and all stakeholders. Both parties hope that this collaboration can continue and mutually contribute to the advancement of higher education institutions in Indonesia.
