On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a visit from the board of directors of Universitas Indonesia Hospital (RS UI) to explore potential collaborations in various fields, including the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and the enhancement of healthcare service systems. The visit was attended by FPH UI leadership, including Dean Prof. Dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc.; Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Dr. Ir. Asih Setiarini, M.Sc., along with their team. Representing RS UI were President Director Dr. Ari Kusuma Januarto, Sp.OG., Subsp.Obginsos.; Director of Transformation and Komkordik, Dr. Novita Dwi Istanti, S.K.M., M.A.R.S., as well as other academics and healthcare practitioners from both institutions.
During the meeting, FPH UI provided various strategic inputs to strengthen collaboration with RS UI. Dr. drg. Masyitoh Basabih, M.A.R.S., Head of the Master’s Program in Hospital Administration Studies at FPH UI, emphasized the importance of RS UI establishing a “research tree” as a roadmap for research development in collaboration with FPH UI academics. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Asri C. Adisasmita, M.P.H., M.Phil., Ph.D., Head of the Department of Epidemiology at FPH UI, proposed an internship program for undergraduate Epidemiology students, who have so far not had the opportunity to intern at hospitals. In addition, Prof. Doni Hikmat Ramdhan, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., Ph.D., Manager of Research and Community Engagement at FPH UI, highlighted the need for broader institutional collaboration, considering that FPH UI offers various specializations, such as Environmental Health, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), and Nutrition. He also suggested improvements in the patient examination process at RS UI to speed up service delivery. Furthermore, Prof. Ede Surya Darmawan stressed that RS UI has significant potential to enhance healthcare service systems, particularly in reducing patient wait times for greater efficiency.
Responding to these suggestions, RS UI’s President Director, Dr. Ari Kusuma Januarto, Sp.OG., Subsp.Obginsos., affirmed that RS UI is highly open to broader collaborations, whether in research, student internships, or healthcare service improvements. He emphasized that now is the right time for both institutions to work together for greater benefits. Dr. Novita Dwi Istanti, S.K.M., M.A.R.S., Director of Transformation and Komkordik at RS UI, added, “During the first 100 days of our tenure, the RS UI board has been actively engaging with various faculties at UI to gather input and improve existing systems.” She also explained that the collaboration would cover healthcare services, the transformation of services toward digitalization, the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, and a shift in RS UI employees’ mental models to improve service quality.
This discussion marked an important initial step in strengthening the synergy between FPH UI and RS UI. It is hoped that this collaboration will lead to healthcare innovations that benefit academics, practitioners, and the broader community. (wrk)
