The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) recently conducted a surveillance audit to maintain its ISO 37001:2016 Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) certification, which took place on November 11-12, 2024. This activity involved the faculty leadership and all units within the faculty’s administrative center, with the aim of ensuring that the management system that has been implemented continues to function according to the standards and effectively prevents bribery practices.
Led by Vitody Yusofan Putra as the Lead Auditor, this surveillance is part of FPH UI’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its commitment to transparency, integrity, and accountability in all aspects of its operations.
FPH UI Dean, Prof. dr. Mondastri K. Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc., emphasized the importance of the faculty’s commitment to maintaining a management system focused on preventing bribery. In his opening speech, Prof. Mondastri stressed that ISO 37001:2016 is not just a certification standard, but an integral part of the organizational culture aimed at creating a work environment free from corruption and abuse of power.
“As an educational and health institution with a significant impact on society, FPH UI has a great responsibility to always demonstrate compliance with ethical and integrity standards. ISO 37001 helps us ensure that all of our operational aspects are conducted with high transparency and accountability,” stated Prof. Mondastri.
ISO 37001:2016 is a management system designed to assist organizations in preventing, detecting, and addressing bribery practices. In this case, FPH UI has implemented policies and procedures to prevent bribery across all areas of the faculty, from student admissions to budget management and research operations.
The Lead Auditor explained that during this audit, the auditors would review existing documentation, the procedures in place, and conduct interviews with staff from various units to ensure that all processes are in line with the ISO 37001 standard.
“FPH UI has shown outstanding commitment in maintaining integrity and transparency. We will examine whether the existing procedures are working well, and identify areas that may need improvement or enhancement,” explained Todi.
Over the course of two days, the faculty leadership and all units of the FPH UI administrative center underwent the surveillance audit, which included interviews, discussions, and verifications. Each unit presented and showed evidence of the implementation of anti-bribery policies within their business processes. Through these interviews and verifications, auditors ensured that every part of the organization, from leadership to administrative staff, understood and followed the procedures that had been established.
The success of FPH UI in maintaining its ISO 37001:2016 certification is a tangible reflection of the faculty’s commitment to maintaining a bribery-free environment. By conducting routine surveillance audits, FPH UI not only ensures compliance with applicable standards but also strengthens the deeply embedded anti-bribery culture in every element of the faculty.
As one of the leading faculties in Indonesia, FPH UI is committed to continually improving management quality and transparency, thus setting an example for other educational institutions in creating a corruption- and bribery-free environment.
The ISO 37001:2016 surveillance ended with a presentation of findings and recommendations from the audit team. Based on the surveillance results, six findings were identified, including five observations and one minor finding. However, the Lead Auditor highlighted that more positive findings were made during the surveillance process. These positive findings included:
- Top Management has a strong commitment to implementing anti-bribery measures, evidenced by the consistent application of anti-bribery policies, the absence of reported cases of bribery, extortion, or gratification, and the functioning of anti-bribery compliance.
- Top Management hopes that the established system will be implemented as fully as possible and that all requirements specified by the SNI ISO 37001:2016 standard will be followed.
- Control over the commitment to anti-bribery practices is not only internal but also extends to external parties.
- An anti-bribery and anti-gratification culture has been developed within the organization.
- All employees have a good understanding of the procedures.
- FPH UI remains consistent in applying the ABMS to achieve the Integrity Zone (ZI) designation.
- Openness and cooperation from the auditee.
FPH UI appreciates the feedback provided and is committed to continuously improving the implementation of its anti-bribery management system to ensure it remains relevant and effective.
The positive results of this audit led FPH UI to receive a recommendation to maintain its ISO 37001:2016 certification. Retaining this certification is expected to further strengthen FPH UI’s credibility and integrity as a professional and responsible educational institution. (wrk)
