Depok, 13 November 2025 – The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) once again became a destination for educational visits from high school students eager to learn more about higher education in the field of public health. On Thursday (13/11), FPH UI welcomed visits from three schools: SMA Negeri 50 Jakarta, MA Ar Rahmat Majalengka, and SMA Adzkia Islamic School Ciputat.
The visit aimed to provide students with insights into the discipline of public health as well as potential career paths in the field. Participants were welcomed by the Education Manager of FPH UI, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M.; Head of the Undergraduate Environmental Health Program, Dr. Ema Hermawati, S.K.M., M.Si.; Head of the Undergraduate Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program, Abdul Kadir, M.Sc.; and Secretary of the Undergraduate Public Health Program, Dr. Eng. In her remarks, Dr. Laila Fitria expressed appreciation for the students’ enthusiasm in learning more about the world of public health. She explained that FPH UI is committed to expanding public understanding of the importance of public health within the broader health sector.
“FPH UI not only produces graduates who are academically competent but also individuals with social awareness and sensitivity to health issues within communities. We hope this visit helps students see that public health plays a major role in everyday life,” said Dr. Laila.
The session continued with a presentation by Dr. Ema Hermawati, who introduced the Undergraduate Environmental Health Program. She explained that this field focuses on the relationship between the environment and human health, covering issues such as sanitation, water quality, waste management, and climate change. “Environmental health is one of the first lines of defense in preventing diseases. We want to instill the understanding that protecting the environment also means protecting public health,” Dr. Ema stated.
Meanwhile, Abdul Kadir, M.Sc., highlighted the significant role of the Undergraduate Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program in protecting workers and communities from risks of workplace accidents and occupational diseases. “OHS has a strategic role across various sectors, including industry, healthcare, and education. We want to introduce young people to the idea that workplace safety is not merely an obligation, but an essential part of a healthy and productive work culture,” said Abdul Kadir.
The final speaker, Dr. Eng. Stevan Deby Anbiya Muhammad Sunarno, elaborated on the scope of the Undergraduate Public Health Program, which encompasses multidisciplinary approaches to improving population health through promotive, preventive, and evidence-based policy interventions. “Students at FPH UI are equipped with analytical and leadership skills to become agents of change in public health. We hope students see that career opportunities in this field are vast, ranging from research to public policy advocacy,” Dr. Stevan explained.
The visit continued with interactive discussions marked by high enthusiasm. Students actively asked questions about the student admission process, academic activities, scholarships, and learning experiences at FPH UI.
Through this activity, FPH UI continues to strengthen its role as an educational institution that excels not only in the three pillars of higher education but also in offering education and inspiration to younger generations.
