Getting to Know FPH UI: Students from Labschool Cirendeu and SMAN 44 Jakarta Enthusiastically Discuss Nutrition and Environmental Health

Depok, September 24, 2025 – The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) once again opened its doors to high school students eager to explore higher education in the field of public health. This time, FPH UI welcomed visits from Labschool Cirendeu High School and SMAN 44 Jakarta, held at the Doctoral Promotion Room of FPH UI.

A total of 170 participants were warmly received by the Academic Manager of FPH UI, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M.; the Head of the Undergraduate Nutrition Program, dr. Fathimah S. Sigit, M.Res., Ph.D.; and the Head of the Undergraduate Environmental Health Program, Dr. Ema Hermawati, S.K.M., M.Si.

In her welcoming remarks, Dr. Laila introduced the overall profile of FPH UI and highlighted the wide range of learning opportunities available. “FPH UI not only provides academic education but also equips students with soft skills, practical experiences, networks, and strong ethical values to become impactful public health professionals. These can be developed through student organizations, internships, and various programs such as international student mobility,” she explained.

Meanwhile, dr. Fathimah elaborated on the Undergraduate Nutrition Program, emphasizing the critical role of nutrition in improving community health. “In our Nutrition Program, students don’t just learn about healthy food—they also study how nutritional interventions can improve the overall quality of life. Our graduates are equipped to contribute across multiple sectors, including clinical practice, community health, and policy development,” she said.

In the same session, Dr. Ema introduced the Undergraduate Environmental Health Program, emphasizing its relevance to current global challenges. “Environmental health plays a key role in disease prevention and maintaining human well-being. Students learn how to address environmental problems that affect health while contributing to sustainable development goals,” she noted.

The session was lively and interactive, with students enthusiastically asking questions about academic life, majors, admission pathways, scholarships, and even postgraduate opportunities. The discussions reflected a strong curiosity and eagerness to learn among the participants.

Through this activity, FPH UI aims to inspire students to pursue higher education in public health while broadening their understanding of the vital role public health plays in everyday life. (wrk)
