Occupational Health and Safety Community (OHSC), the Occupational Safety and Health student association of the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) received an award at the 2024 UI Student Achievement Appreciation. The award was given by the UI Directorate of Student Affairs (Dirmawa) to appreciate the achievements of UI students in academic and non-academic fields throughout 2023/2024, on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Convention Hall, UI Depok Campus.
OHSC FPH UI received an award through participation in the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbudristek RI) through the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Ditjen Belmawa), Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (Directorate General of Higher Education). “OHSC has several work programs targeting the general public, two of which are Basecamp and OHS Goes to School. “This year, we are trying to apply for the two programs to the UI Kepmas Grant for the first time,” explained Arya Pandu Mahardhika, General Leader of OHSC FPH UI 2024.
“Through the direction of Mr. Abdul Kadir, M.Sc., Lecturer in the K3 Department of FPH UI, we also proposed the Ormawa PPK program from the Ministry of Education and Culture to UI Student Affairs. “Of the three proposals we submitted, two of them, namely the community service related to Tourism K3 in the Seribu Islands through the Basecamp work program passed the UI Kepmas Grant and the community service related to Maritime K3 in Caringin Village Fishing Village passed the Ormawa PPK,” added Arya.
PPK Ormawa is a program to strengthen the capacity of student organizations through a series of coaching processes by universities which are implemented in community service and empowerment programs. Accompanied by Abdul Kadir, S.K.M, M.Sc., as accompanying lecturer, OHSC FPH UI progressed with the Assistance Program for the Implementation of Occupational Safety and Health and Emergency Aspects which will be carried out in Fishermen’s Village, Caringin Village, Pandeglang Regency, Banten.
The program delivered by OHSC FPH UI provides guidance to the informal maritime sector, namely fishermen. “The focus provided is to develop fishermen through the introduction of K3 aspects so that they have awareness of disasters. “Apart from that, we have established a Healthy and Safe Fishermen’s Village institution as an outcome that we are trying to achieve because there is no institution that oversees it in the area,” explained Salwa Fadhilah as Team Leader of PPK Ormawa OHSC FPH UI 2024 and Manager of Research Health and Safety Education OHSC FPH UI 2024 “The selection of Caringin Village was based on the consideration that the area is close to the campus as well as considerations of its maritime sector. “We hope that this program can generate more attention from partners and related parties towards the informal sector in the future,” continued Salwa.
“Through the vision and mission of OHSC this year, we hope that awareness of K3 will not be limited to K3 students, but also FPH UI, UI students and the general public. “It is hoped that the formation of K3 institutions in the Caringin Village Fishing Village can become a model for disaster-resilient, healthy and safe fishing villages for other fishing villages in Indonesia,” concluded Arya.
Through the achievements and awards received, it is hoped that OHSC FPH UI and other student associations will be increasingly motivated to continue to excel and make positive contributions to FPH UI and Indonesia. Congratulations, OHSC FPH UI! (ITM)
