Strengthening International Collaboration in Occupational Health and Safety, FPH UI Holds Global OHS Program with Inje University

Carrying the Theme “Advancing Occupational Health and Safety through Global Academic Collaboration,” the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI), through its Department of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), once again held the Global Occupational Health and Safety Program (GOHSP) 2025. The program was officially opened on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, with an opening ceremony held at the Doctoral Promotion Room, Building G, FPH UI. GOHSP serves as a cross-national learning platform that not only enhances students’ understanding of occupational health and safety but also promotes knowledge and cultural exchange.

The Global Occupational Health and Safety Program, in collaboration with Inje University, is part of the Occupational Health and Safety Credit Earning Program (OHS CREATES), which is held annually. In 2025, the program welcomed 22 students from Inje University, South Korea, and will take place from July 21–31, 2025. It is designed to provide a comprehensive academic and cultural experience through lectures, training, industrial visits, and sessions on language and cultural excursions. Over the course of ten days, participants will receive in-depth learning on the basic principles and practices in OHS.

The curriculum includes an introduction to occupational health and safety, first aid training, occupational health, OHS regulations, human factors, ergonomics, and industrial hygiene. In addition to academic activities, the visiting students from Inje University will engage in a variety of non-academic experiences aimed at enriching their time in Indonesia. These include local cultural introductions, basic Indonesian language lessons, cultural trips, and interactive sessions with undergraduate students of the OHS Program at FPH UI. These activities are designed to deepen cross-cultural understanding and foster peer-to-peer connections.

“We aim to offer a well-rounded experience—not only academically but also socially and culturally. The goal is for students to understand the application of OHS in both workplace and community contexts, and to gain deeper insight into Indonesian culture,” explained Abdul Kadir, S.K.M., M.Sc., Head of the OHS Undergraduate Program at FPH UI. He also emphasized that GOHSP is not just a learning platform but a collaborative space supported by industry partners. “We are grateful to all our partners, including Pertamina EP and PT Sagatrade Murni, for their support in making this program possible. We also extend our thanks to all OHS students who will assist participants throughout the program,” he added.

Dr. Ir. Asih Setiarini, M.Sc., Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs at FPH UI, expressed her appreciation for the participants. “We warmly welcome all participants. This program represents FPH UI’s strong commitment to the internationalization of OHS education. We hope the entire series of events runs smoothly and brings significant benefits to all,” said Dr. Asih.

The opening ceremony also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between FPH UI and Inje University as a commitment to long-term academic collaboration. Prof. Kim Tae Gu, Ph.D., of Inje University, expressed his pride in the partnership opportunity. Inje University is one of South Korea’s leading higher education institutions, upholding values of humanity, social service, and environmental preservation. “We hope this initiative marks the beginning of a broader academic horizon and strengthens cooperation between Inje University and FPH UI in the future,” said Prof. Kim.

Revina Amanda Patria, S.K.M., Section Head for International Services at UI, highlighted the importance of initiatives like GOHSP in strengthening UI’s global network. “This year, UI ranked 189th in the world. We are very open to international programs like this,” she stated. Amanda also mentioned that UI has active collaborations with several South Korean universities and offers a variety of international scholarship opportunities for participants.

The opening ceremony was also attended by leaders of FPH UI, including Prof. Indri Hapsari Susilowati, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., Ph.D., Manager of Partnerships, Alumni Relations, and Ventures, and Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M., Manager of Education.
