Undergraduate OSH Study Program FPH UI Receives Comparative Study Visit from STIKES PGI Cikini and STIKes PERTAMEDIKA Jakarta

On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Study Program at the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) of the Universitas Indonesia (UI) hosted a benchmarking visit from two institutions: the PGI Cikini School of Health Sciences (STIKes PGI Cikini) and the PERTAMEDIKA Jakarta School of Health Sciences (STIKes PERTAMEDIKA Jakarta). The event took place at the OHS Department of FPH UI and was warmly welcomed by the Head of the OHS Department, Mila Tejamaya, S.Si., MOHS., Ph.D., and the Head of the Bachelor’s Degree OHS Program, Abdul Kadir, S.K.M., M.Sc.

This visit was aimed at establishing connections and cooperation between STIKes PERTAMEDIKA Jakarta and STIKes PGI Cikini with FPH UI, as well as enhancing the quality of their Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) study programs. STIKes PERTAMEDIKA Jakarta is preparing to launch its Bachelor’s Degree OHS program and is interested in studying the curriculum and laboratory facilities of the OHS Department at FPH UI. Meanwhile, the OHS Department at FPH UI also facilitated STIKes PGI Cikini’s visit to gain a broader understanding of the management of the Bachelor’s OHS Program at FPH UI. The benchmarking visit is expected to enrich teaching methods, both in the classroom and in the field, and have a positive impact on both institutions for continuous improvement.

During the visit, Dr. Mila Tejamaya provided a brief overview of the Bachelor’s OHS Program at FPH UI. “The Bachelor’s OHS Program at FPH UI is the first OHS bachelor’s program offered at a public university in Indonesia,” said Dr. Mila. She also mentioned that the program is based on five key pillars: occupational health, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and human factors and behavior.

Throughout their studies, OHS students have the opportunity to select elective courses, either through the Merdeka Learning – Independent Campus (MBKM) program provided by the government or through independent internships. “However, before choosing electives, students are required to complete compulsory courses from the University, the Health Sciences Cluster (RIK), FPH, and the study program,” she added. Dr. Mila also explained that there are eight activities that can be considered for credit transfer into elective courses. These activities include internships, research, teaching programs, and other activities related to applying OHS knowledge. This provides flexibility for students to broaden their perspectives and experiences in the field of OHS, both domestically and internationally.

In addition to the presentation about the Bachelor’s OHS Program, the delegation from STIKes PGI Cikini and STIKes PERTAMEDIKA Jakarta were also taken on a tour of the OHS laboratories at the OHS Department and the Health Sciences Cluster (RIK). The tour was guided by Farah Nur Fauziyah, the head of the OHS Laboratory. Farah explained that the practical equipment used for teaching and learning activities in the OHS program at FPH UI is standardized according to ISO and is routinely calibrated every year. OHS students have access to use various equipment, both for laboratory and fieldwork activities. Some of the tools available in the laboratory include sound level meters, lux meters, anthropometers, and other equipment that supports teaching and research in occupational health and safety.

This benchmarking visit related to the curriculum and laboratory facilities is an important step in strengthening inter-university relationships and providing a platform for sharing knowledge and experience. Through this visit, it is hoped that closer cooperation will be established between FPH UI and STIKes PGI Cikini and STIKes PERTAMEDIKA Jakarta, particularly in the development of the Bachelor’s OHS Program and the implementation of the knowledge gained in the development of their respective study programs to improve the quality of education in the OHS field in the future.

The delegation from STIKes PGI Cikini included Anita Sriwaty Pardede, S.K.M., M.Kes., QHIA (Deputy Head for Academic Affairs) and Susanti Basuki, S.E., M.A., OSHE (Deputy Head for Non-Academic Affairs), while the delegation from STIKes PERTAMEDIKA Jakarta was led by Ns.
