Winning Champion in 2024 Ormawa Abdidaya, OHSC FPH UI is the Only Student Unit to Pass from UI

The Organizational Capacity Building Program for Student Organizations (PPK Ormawa) OHSC at the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) has achieved national recognition once again. This time, OHSC FPH UI won 3rd place in the Strongest National Policy Embryo category and 4th place in the Most Innovative Student Organization category at the Abdidaya Ormawa 2024 event. Held at Udayana University from November 7–10, 2024, the event raised the theme of Strengthening the Capacity of Student Organizations and Soft Skills for Students as Agents of National Development Transformation Based on Technological Innovation and Partnerships to Achieve a Progressive Indonesia.

Accompanied by Abdul Kadir, S.K.M., M.Sc., PPK Ormawa OHSC FPH UI participated in a program of appreciation from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbudristek RI), which recognizes the contributions of student organizations, faculty, and community partners in national community empowerment. The work of PPK Ormawa OHSC FPH UI had previously earned an award at the 2024 UI Student Achievement Appreciation event.

The program presented by OHSC FPH UI focused on the maritime sector, an informal sector, to educate fishermen in Caringin Village, Banten, on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) aspects. The aim of the program was to raise awareness of disaster preparedness among the fishermen as the target group. The output of PPK Ormawa OHSC FPH UI’s efforts was the establishment of the Sehat dan Selamat Fishermen Village institution.

Salwa Fadhilah, the Team Leader of PPK Ormawa OHSC FPH UI, shared the experience of her team in achieving this award. “The first step to participate in Abdidaya Ormawa was passing the visitation stage. The visitation is a review process where the reviewers visit the implementing team, student organizations, faculty, universities, and target villages,” said Salwa. “The visitation took place on October 12, 2024, and UI only sent one team, which was OHSC,” she added.

Salwa also mentioned that the PPK Ormawa OHSC FPH UI team ensured the program’s monitoring and evaluation were conducted in-person. “We appointed cadres to ensure the continuity of the institution we established. We always strive to monitor the program directly. The latest update is that the fishermen are now under the management of the Destana (Disaster Resilient Village) institution formed by the village government, so the Sehat dan Selamat Fishermen Village institution can be continuously monitored,” Salwa explained.

PPK Ormawa FPH UI was the only representative from UI and the first student organization from UI to participate in and advance to the Abdidaya Ormawa award. For this reason, Salwa hopes that in the future, more proposals will be submitted by FPH students and the wider student body at UI. “UI students have great potential to receive awards in PPK Ormawa. I hope that in the future, there will be more proposals submitted, more funding received, and more programs carried out that benefit the wider community,” Salwa concluded. (ITM)
