Saturday, October 1, 2022, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) welcomed 12 (twelve) students from MAHSA University Malaysia, Malaya University Malaysia, and Mahidol University Thailand. The student is a participant in the Reciprocal Inbound Mobility Environmental Health Study Program, Universitas Indonesia Credit Earning Program (UI-CREATES) 2022. This program will be carried out for 2 (two) weeks from 1 – 14 October 2022 and will be carried out offline. Later, participants are entitled to receive 4 credits and official non-degree transcripts from UI.
The opening of the UI-CREATES Environmental Health (EH) was attended by the Dean of FPH UI, Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc; Academic Manager, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M.; Cooperation Manager, Alumni and Venture Relations, Indri Hapsari Susilowati, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., Ph.D.; Head of the FPH UI Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Ema Hermawati, S.Sc., M.K.M., as well as FPH UI Environmental Health Lecturers; Head of Department of Social & Preventive Medicine Universiti Malaya, Prof. Victor Hoe Chee; Dean of MAHSA University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veronica Chua Poh Choo; and Deputy Dean for International Relations Mahidol University, Prof. Orawan Kaewboonchoo.
“FPH UI opens opportunities and supports for students from MAHSA University, Malaya University and Mahidol University who wish to study in Indonesia through the EH UI-CREATES program and later this program is expected to provide extraordinary, priceless experiences,” said Prof. Mondastri, through his speech.
The series of EH UI-CREATES activities consist of public lectures, water quality practicum, food safety practicum, environmental health spatial analysis practicum, disease vector practicum, industrial visits to the Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) Tirta Asasta Depok and PT Hyundai Motor Indonesia, tours, and activities in DKI Jakarta, as well as a tour of the Bogor Final Processing Site (TPA).
Apart from that, there are also faculty tours, games, Indonesian cooking classes by student buddies from members of the FPH UI Environmental Health Student Association (ENVIHSA). The participants are also scheduled to visit cultural tourism spots in Jakarta, including the Istiqlal Mosque, Cathedral Church, National Monument (Monas), and Sarinah.
As a form of inauguration, representatives from each university signed an official cooperation agreement. Tokens of appreciation from FPH UI were also handed over to Mahsa University Malaysia, Malaya University Malaysia, and Mahidol University Thailand and vice versa.
This activity is expected to be a good platform for participants to deepen their knowledge of environmental health and learn about various cultures in Indonesia. “This program will bring a climate of new insights about environmental health because of the involvement of multinational students,” said the Head of the FPH UI Environmental Health Study Program, Dr. Ema Hermawati, S.Si., M.K.M.
