On Monday, 27 February 2023, the University of Indonesia (UI), including the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) and the Faculty of Psychology, held a collaborative meeting with the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI). This collaboration aims to improve the quality of Indonesian sports development.
UI Chancellor, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., and General Chairperson of the Central KONI, Lt. Gen. TNI Purn. Marciano Norman mentioned in his speech that sport plays an important and strategic role, especially after the Second World War. According to him, sport is a symbol of a country’s strength, plus it is a representative of the development of science and technology. One of the things he touched on was the role of psychology to improve character building and strengthen the mentality of athletes and public health to improve the quality of athletes in terms of nutrition.
The collaboration between UI and KONI was manifested in a memorandum of understanding signed by the General Chairperson (Ketum) of the Central KONI Lt. Gen. Retired Marciano Norman and UI Chancellor, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D. The Central KONI also signed a collaboration with FPH UI, attended by the Dean, Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc., and UI Faculty of Psychology, Dr. Bagus Takwin, M.Hum., Psychologist.
The scope of cooperation between FPH UI and KONI includes sports nutrition and the implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) in sports. This collaboration concerns the fields of education, training and mentoring with the aim of improving sports performance and achievements in Indonesia.
Sports Science support from universities through this memorandum of understanding is expected to help KONI to achieve achievement targets at the 2044 Olympics. (wrk)
