Five students from the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) underwent an international mobility program to MAHSA University, Malaysia for 15 days, from 25 May – 8 June 2023 to be exact. The five students were Nur Indah Iriana, Edgar Zeta, Habibah Nurul Rahmah, and Alfi Kamelia Amany from Regular Bachelor of Environmental Health 2019; and Salwa Anfa Regular Bachelor of Environmental Health 2020. This activity uses a partially funded scheme where students still have to pay for accommodation to and from Malaysia.
Apart from UI, international mobility activities at MAHSA University were also attended by students from Chiang Mai University, Thailand. However, classes related to environmental health are only attended by UI students in international classes which contain students from abroad, such as Saudi Arabia and Brunei Darussalam.
Together with the Dean of FPH UI, Prof. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc.; Deputy Dean for Education, Research and Student Affairs FPH UI, Dr. Ir. Asih Setiarini, M.Sc., and Cooperation Manager, Alumni and Venture Relations FPH UI, Indri Hapsari Susilowati, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., Ph.D., the five students departed from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Thursday, May 25, 2023. When they got there, they were immediately welcomed by the MAHSA Student Ambassadors to take part in the Opening Ceremony. In this activity, each dean conveyed his remarks, thanks, and hopes for the activities to be carried out for the next 14 days.
Broadly speaking, the activities followed included interactive lectures on environmental health and occupational health and safety, field tours, and cultural evenings. The interactive lectures that were attended were entitled Management and Safety of Toxic Substances; Occupational Safety and Health; Monitoring and Surveillance; Emergency Response and Management; Climate Change; Legal Legislation Lectures; as well as Land Use and Housing. Then, the places visited included KLCC, Dataran Merdeka, KL Tower, Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Forest Research Institute Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Airport Council, Central Market, and the National Mosque. In the Farewell Party activity, students had the opportunity to perform traditional dances from Indonesia.
“In our opinion, this activity is a life experience that will not be forgotten. Even though Indonesia and Malaysia are allied countries, there are many differences that we can learn from. We also got international experience, knowledge, and new friends, as well as the opportunity to see places in Malaysia,” said one of the mobility participants, Nur Indah Iriana. (BK)
