“Currently, the OHS Department of FPH UI has its own center of excellence, namely the Occupational Safety and Health Center of Excellence (OSH CoE), which is one of our flagships,” said the Head of the Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) Department, who is also Head of the Occupational Health and Safety Program. Undergraduate Study of Occupational Safety and Health, Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI), Mila Tedjamaya, S.Sc., M.O.H.S., Ph.D., at the reception for a comparative study visit from the OHS Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Darussalam University (UNIDA) Gontor. The event, which was held on Thursday, 25 August 2023, was held in 2 rooms, namely the Professor’s Room for lecturer discussions and the Doctoral Promotion Room for student discussions.
Aiming to find out more about learning and curriculum information in the FPH UI OHS Program and knowing the work program of the FPH UI OHS Student Association, the visiting participants from UNIDA Gontor consisting of 7 lecturers and 66 students were enthusiastic about carrying out discussions with lecturers and students from the OHS Department FPH UI. Present from the OHS Department of FPH UI besides the Head of the Department was the Secretary of the Department, Dr. Hendra, S.K.M., M.K.K.K.; Head of the OHS Masters Study Program, Dr. Dadan Erwandi, S.Psi., M.Sc.; OHS Lecturer who is also Head of the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Robiana Modjo, S.K.M., M.Kes.; Professor of OHS, Prof. dr. Fatma Lestari, M.Si., Ph.D., and Prof. Doni Hikmat Ramdan, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., Ph.D .; as well as OHS Lecturer, Mufti Wirawan, S.Psi., M.K.K.K.
In the discussion activity, Dr. Mila explained about the learning program and curriculum in the OHS Undergraduate Study Program while Dr. Dadan explained about the OHS Masters Study Program. “Undergraduate programs basically study the fundamentals or basics of OHS science, while more detailed knowledge is studied at the next level, namely the master’s degree. FPH UI also excels by providing global health courses where not all universities give these courses to their students,” said Dr. Mila. Furthermore, Dr. Mila also explained that UI provides many opportunities for its students to take elective courses which provide opportunities for students to gain a lot of knowledge from various fields, this is also supported by the Merdeka Learning Merdeka Campus (MBKM). Prof. Doni also added that to form a good curriculum, UNIDA must first pay attention to the competencies needed or expected to be mastered by students, because this is the background for forming a curriculum which will later be outlined in courses. Apart from the discussion, the lecturers from the OSH Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, UNIDA Gontor also had the opportunity to visit OSH CoE FPH UI directly.
Not only lecturers, but students also carry out discussions related to student organizations in OHS FPH UI, namely the Occupational Health and Safety Community (OHSC). Students who are members of OHSC FPH UI provide information to students from the OSH Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences UNIDA Gontor through presentations, focus group discussions per field and fun games.
“Our presence at FPH UI, especially OHS, a place that is a reference for study programs that are still young like us, hopefully can add to our insights about good OSH. So that later it can become material for evaluating and developing innovations in our future work program. Apart from that, we also hope that our students will be more motivated to improve their quality both in the academic and non-academic fields,” hoped Sisca Mayang Phuspa, S.K.M., M.Sc., Deputy Dean 3 of the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Darussalam (UNIDA) Gontor.
